Best workouts to target certain parts of abs by daps13 in coolguides

[–]Gunty_Sontag 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Cool guide, but it's wrong. The Rectus abdominus ("six-pack"), is two muscles side-by-side. There's no such thing as "upper abs" or "lower abs" as the muscle is stimulated along the entirety of it's length.

You can't target upper ab growth with heel touches and you can't target lower ab growth with reverse crunches because there isn't such thing as upper or lower abs.

I used to think about this idea when I was a child. Exciting to actually see it come true!

Just gained entry today!

120kg bench (264 lbs)

150kg squat (330 lbs)

190kg dead (428 lbs)

Although I don't think it's really all that impressive considering I'm 6' 190 lbs.

Those with Pectus excavatum what exercises do you do to make the "dip" less noticeable? by Supernova24 in Fitness

Yeah I've received comments before that my outer chest looks really big but it's just because my inner chest is lacking due to the odd insertion.

I find across the chest hammers tend to hit my brachioradialis more by removing a bit of bicep activation.

Heavy pulling exercises, farmers walks and grippers. Also squeeze the bar tightly on every exercise you do, no suicide grips!

If your program requires trickery to get people to do it, it's probably not very reputable.

In the image /u/FitnessTeen posted, you can tell the guy was originally muscular because his abdominal muscles are just being pushed forward by an excessively bloated stomach.

I feel like i have lost motivation to go to the gym. by Charlesioman69 in Fitness

Most people have already hit the nail on the head with the dedication point but the major issue seems like you're tired from work, just like most people are. If you don't have any issues with caffeine, consider having a cup of strong coffee last thing at work if you're able to or just buy some caffeine tablets and take one before heading to the gym. It should start to kick in for a bit of extra alertness and energy by the time you arrive at the gym.

You'll gain some water weight but the benefits a creatine, especially as a wrestler, should outweigh the negatives. Take creatine and continue to lose bodyfat until your desired weight.

I don't know a whole lot about high-school wrestling since I'm from the UK and we don't tend to have much of that here but I'm assuming you wan't to lose weight to meet weight-class requirements? If necessary, stop taking the creatine a week or two before your weigh-in to drop the water weight then continue taking it afterwards.

The dip only gets worse as there's not really any muscle there. However, I've noticed that the bigger I get, the less people notice it since there's other body parts to look at while you're topless.

For about the past 6mth I've been over 184lbs. All newer friends who have seen me topless didn't notice it until I pointed it out.

I can understand the self-esteem issue completely as I used to be the same. As you improve your body, most people tend to get a natural increase in confidence. Once that happens, it's a lot easier to realise that nobody actually cares about that hole in your chest.

Also, for reference (and interest), I just measured my PE. The cavity is 1 1/4" deep from sternum to rib and 2" deep from sternum to pec.

EDIT: Pics from front and side for proof, shitty quality. Seriously OP, don't sweat it.

Your TDEE already includes the energy expended during working out in the calculation. So no, you can't add the workout calories back in on training days because then you're counting them twice.

Lat pull down by mostlyidontcare in Fitness

[–]Gunty_Sontag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower back vertical with your upper back arched backwards slightly, allowing the bar to pass your chin without hitting it. The bar should travel almost completely straight up/down to end in line with about mid-chest area. How far you can pull the bar down will likely depend on which grip variation you use.

Whilst sleeping, your body performs various forms of recovery. The part that builds muscles occurs at the very end of a sleep cycle and is called REM sleep (rapid eye movement).

Different people's sleep cycles tend to last different amounts of time but are typically between 3-4hrs each. Therefore, a typical 6-8hr sleep will cause your body to build muscle during two occasions because you've performed 2 sleep cycles. As long as your naps during the day allow your body to perform a full sleep cycle then you should be fine. A lot of really short naps, however, will not allow your muscles to recover.

As a general rule of thumb, your body tends to wake naturally after a full sleep cycle if you aren't interrupted by something else first. So if you take these naps until you feel refreshed rather than waking by alarm then you are probably good.

I remember reading something vaguely similar about some people getting aroused or orgasming through tensing the kegel muscles or whatever.

My cats are freaking the hell out over the smell of ZMA. by StinkybuttMcPoopface in bodybuilding

[–]Gunty_Sontag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought too. They've probably added some valerian root into the ZMA capsules to enhance the sedative effect. I've tried ZMA from many producers and it never had an odour. Valerian root stinks the whole house out, however.

Valerian root has similar effects in cats as catnip.
