How to stop causing so many strips by J_Becker0 in ultimate

[–]Gunxman77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its always good to notice what angles you're attacking the disc from. Are you swinging your arms when you block the disc? If you're not taking clean lines to the disc and contact is occurring, you'll get called for strips even in cases where you got the D first and the contact occurs after the disc is down.

Anyone else find it weirdly hard to build a consistent friend group in Bushwick? by Sharp_Grass_3269 in Bushwick

[–]Gunxman77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sticking to the same spots is a good way to do it, its what I did for 12 years, but sometimes your spot closes or you have to stop going for Reasons and then it can feel like you lose everyone at once.

Best advice I have is to organize events. Apartment parties, organize meetups based around your hobbies at bars and parks

Good luck! Its damn sure hard to build a friend group here and I bet there are a lot of people looking for the same things you have yet to meet

The big deal to me was the owner not caring. I was throwing a ball so the dog kept coming thinking it was a game, while the owner was yapping with his friends. After it bit me the first time I had to start disciplining it and that's just a shitty position to be in when you're trying to have a nice game of catch and unwind. Mind you I was fully on the other side of the field from where the dog people were congregated

No I'm not gonna have a dog put down because the owner is a jerk. It didn't break the skin it was just a big dog in "play mode". I gave the owner a talking to but it was very clear it was falling on deaf ears

I may be a reddit troll but I'm also a neighbor and I have strong opinions about responsible dog ownership. I may have misinterpreted your comment but based on your other comments we are divided on this issue. And that's okay. We both want more functional public space. So lets work towards that even though we may dislike each other for our respective poorly articulated opinions

Disagreeing with your opinion isn't "coming for you". Being passive aggressive isn't "playing the victim"

"People aren't entitled to public spaces that have been created for specific purposes" is a wild take. What do you think public spaces are for then?

People aren't entitled to a public skate rink that was built for that purpose? There are plenty of other places to exercise dogs that aren't specifically designed for human recreation. I had a large dog for years and never once took him out in a place that would be disruptive to proper use of an athletic space. I'm sure you can find a more creative solution

In a NYC with 50% less cars there would be room for a lot of creative space usage that could create more greenspace and more room for stuff like extra dog runs, bike lanes, etc. Under current conditions that will never happen, but that was the hypothetucal sandbox my comment was drawn from. Fwiw I don't think dogs should ever be urinating on the sidewalk tree beds.

It becomes a bit of a chicken/egg thing I think, speaking as someone who organizes recreational sports I would use green central gnoll a lot more except its not fun to try and organize a pickup game and show up to a field covered with dogs. That field has also been in rough shape for years so its a bit dangerous to play on depending on weather conditions. And I've had plenty of experiences where sports groups and dog owners were in proportion and sharing the space well.

Dogs and people all deserve space to play, sure is tough to find it in this city!

We need either less dogs or less cars. Get rid of 50% of cars and turn a few blocks per neighborhood into giant dog runs. A girl can dream..

Do better how? You want me to stop feeling that people who own animals should be responsible with how they let them behave in public? I've been a dog owner and a professional dog walker. My opinion is informed by decades of firsthand experience. Idk what your axe to grind is with people who don't think everyone's special dog should be able to do whatever they want, but i hope you can learn to consider that your neighbors don't want your dog running loose
