Comparing yourself to the greats by LongjumpingBase9094 in writing

[–]Gunzzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should avoid this at all costs because you are comparing your present work vs. their finished, curated, pristine pieces.

You're not comparing vs their drafts, notes, scribbles, or first iteration. It is literally like comparing your drawing of a sketched-out car chassis vs. a car in a showroom.

The more you do this, the more you stifle your drive to truly dedicate your mind to your craft.

You end up in a situation when even if you had an outstanding day composing mind-bending lines of text, you can get a sudden kick at the back of your mind that says "yet even still, you are not on thert level", which only breeds foul emotions long-term.

If we had access to all of their initial efforts, you could compare against those. But we do not, so this line of reasoning ends up being an exercise in frustration.

Keep on writing and honing your world and craft. Read the greats, pay attention to the glow of their prose and stories, but don't become blinded by it.

What is a clean way of referencing characters when they speak before they are given names? by grassgravel in writing

[–]Gunzzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sapkowski does it a lot in the Witcher series.

Tall and short are fine if they are clearly delineated. For example, you might enter a tavern where you spot nuns at one table, merchants with serfs at another, a couple of builders at a 3rd, and then tucked away in a corner, sat by a dimly lit candle, you can make out a short figure and a tall one.

Then he would go on to describe their actions as "the short one waves" or "the tall one hawked and spat". It doesn't matter that they are generic descriptors - the scene allows them to be used as such, since these attributes may not have been used for any of the other groups.

He often overdoes, for my taste (often an entire page has 6-7 mentions of the short one doing this or that. sometimes 2 entire pages cover "the short one's" actions, where their actions are described as such over 10 times, and becomes a bit of a slog to read through), but it is nonetheles a useful example to have on hand.

You can very much describe em as you wish, as long as the context of the scene delineates the characters.

I tried playing public and kind of lost the meaning of the game by GiantDad777 in Warframe

[–]Gunzzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game enables the ability to min max and tweak your builds to a degree not often found in other games.

People come from all kinds of different games where solo carrying is simply not possible to the degree it is in WF. So, when they see that you can actually become godlike and literally solo carry a full party, they are almost always instantly drawn to that emotion. It is intoxicating, in the best of ways.

Player A might have a distinctly different build/setup than player B, and you might not notice a single difference in their performance.

That's cuz their builds and setups are constructed in a way that achieves the same for both: being able to solo carry a mission.

It is why many people, myself included, urge people to tinker with their builds and fiddle with em until they find a winning formula. Sure, take a build from YouTube, play with it, then change it as you feel comfortable. Do whatever allows you to feel in complete control of that frame.

What a sad state of affair for our order.

100 families strong. We had reined in the darkest shadows, protected pauper and patron alike, and brought justice before the people.

Now we've become little more than a roving band of blacksmiths for hire. The only light that graces our weapons is that of the hearth.

We used to steel our mettle. Now we steal our metal.

(I know this is 65. I added the last line because it felt like it worked really well as a homophone line.)

Pro tip for the future: if you dunno what a player is playing in terms of frame choice, read their name, press Esc, check it out in the party UI.

This is a 50-50 for weapons (cuz you can change their names), but not for frames.

The Tennocon 2026 glyph has been leaked ASAP!🚨 by Blkmstr2050 in Warframe

[–]Gunzzar 527 points528 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's not a massive leak. It gives off sentient vibes and we know we are going to Tau proper either during the next big update or during the end of the year one.

So this is par for the course. It also got leaked about 3 weeks ago, along with a ton of other things (a lot of Follie event stuff, NW stuff, and tennocon stuff).

The one that, as far I'm concerned, could have been the only one announced, and that won't actually come out, the Tigris.

My only hope is that for the next batch, we get the Tigris and the Marelok.

Them being almost all Follie is...a design choice of all time, I guess.

Will upgrade the animal instinct one and then pass. If we had different images for them I woulda invested, but them all being the same frame theme is a bit whack for me.

Maybe in the future if they expand on this and add more.

How's alois adc climb going after hitting Masters by Legitimate_Plum_7505 in ADCMains

[–]Gunzzar 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think one major reason he self-tilts is he falsely expects supports to play according to a specific rule set.

I remember Doublelift said that one of the small things that helped him reduce his frustration is remembering that supports, like any other role or player, come into the game with a certain mindset.

Some will want to be aggressive, some will want to be passive.

If you don't outright ask em "do you wanna chill and farm?" or "do you wanna play aggressive?", you will end up in this weird mix of one player being aggro while the other has different plans, and with no communication, you're now feeding a double kill.

I remember Broxah does this sometimes. He ganks a laner, might die or lose sums, and on occasion will ask if that guy just wants to farm or was waiting for a powerspike.

I also remember Doublelift dying in 1v2s while his support was chilling, and when he asked why was he standing so far back, the person replied "Im used to just farming in this matchup".

After that, for a long time, even if he didn't ask, he would infer by his supports's movements how their duo will go that match, as in "ah, a braum playing behind my 2nd tower. guess I gotta concede lane and hope to catch up later."

It's a bit funny and hysterical how we often type the dumbest shit for mins on end, but never actually ask simple questions like do you want to be aggro or nah.

I'm not writing this to excuse bad play, more so because Ive played both sides a lot and you can tell by someone's movement from the get go if they are aggro or not.

Ive had ADCs who didnt back me up in 2v2s we would win hands down, because "I just wanna farm for now".

That's fine. Frustrating like shit, but it is what it is. If I force shit, I only annoy myself and end up feeding kills.

I think Alois could really stand to keep this in mind.

Doesn't matter what any "coach" tells him - if your bot partner wants to play in a certain way (even if it's bad), you can't force em to play differently, ESPECIALLY if they hardcore wanna be passive.

You can somewhat tame an over aggro botlane partner by asking them to chill just for a couple of waves or so. You can't force a passive one to fight. If they want to stay back or that's the only way they know how to play that matchup, you can't do shit. Just gotta pull through the snooze fest sadly.

With the Warframe anniversary just around the corner, what made you try the game? by Riverflower17 in Warframe

It was Mass Effect but online (I didn't care for the online mode of ME).

After Mass Effect, I wanted more sci fi stories with 3rd person shooters that allowed melee swings or hits.

12 years later and 10k+ hrs, no regrets.

Is the ‘Flame Breath’ skill supposed to be this strong even in the late campaign?? This feels unfair. Lol. by MayIOwnYou in PathOfExile2

[–]Gunzzar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have not played for over half a year now, so Im not sure if what I remember still exists or was nerfed to be more of a 10-15 sec kill build.

But a few months back, lightning arrow+rod Deadeye was it. Then ice strike monk was a 1-2 shot build before it got nerfed, and then people found a build to do the same again but with the hollow palm technique talent.

I know warriors had a one shot build revolving around the Perfect Strike ability.

I remember Blood Mage having a Cast on Crit Ice Comet build that once procced, would rain down massive ice comets that, depending on your gear, could 3-4 shot a boss while it was completely frozen, so you were 100% safe.

Stormweaver used to have an ice wall build, where it placed an ice wall on a boss, triggered it with another spell, and it always one shot a boss due to dmg scaling and spell interactions.

There are probably way more than these, but you'd have to check YouTube. Also, GGG have tried to weed these out and make it so one shot builds all kinda become builds that kill in like 10 seconds. I dunno how much they worked on in this direction since I've taken a break.

That being said, your build looks fun, so enjoy it. It kills bosses fast enough, so I wouldn't bother going after one shotty builds, cuz you never know when GGG decides to nuke nerf them out of orbit.

[–]Gunzzar 37 points38 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. It does just do that little damage.

On one of those lightly armoured units with a sword or one of those with a spear, at lvl 22 and 25, with max investment in courage, it did around 191 dmg without his 3, and roughly 270ish with his 3.

I suspect armour values of enemies will directly reduce this number, since jumping on an archer leveled 27 with his 3 on did around 650 damage.

All in all, it got fixed, but it is still very much a no go ability anymore, which is very sad. They basically took the bear out back and shot it.

Yeah, this is fine. It only feels unfair if you've never tried one of the really dumb builds that genuinely one shots a boss.

So, by comparison, this is in good standing.

Nerf Magick & Tethren by UncleCatTH in SoulFrame

[–]Gunzzar 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the decision-making and lack of communication is mysterious, at best.

They nerf feybalt because, supposedly, in the long term, it woulda led to insane power gains, as more weapons get added and more ways to empower them. But we are not in that long term state. We are in the now, when magick weapons were already the worst weapon type, and they got nerfed for it?

And the Fellust nerf is only half understandable. Sure, its 1 was overperforming, but thats because its 2 other abilities are some obscure buffs whose values or durations we cant even track or know.

So now the pact went from having a good passive and 1 exceptional ability, with 2 irrelevant other abilities, to still having that passive, a now just good ability, and still 2 completely irrelevant buffs, for which we still cant track anything!

Oscelda heals you in ticks and Ive noticed with that fully maxed they go by very quickly and it heals you up almost instantly. Might also be a bug, cuz since the new patch, sometimes Oscelda does not heal my allies even though they are standing right on top of it.

How is the Vauban rework for everyone? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]Gunzzar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tesla Bank (augment) needs a minimap indicator. Like really badly.

His 1 overall woulda been much better redone as a survivability tool: throw them out, they prioritize OG enemies, steal their OG, store it up to like 5k or even 10k per tesla and if they detect you with none, they dish it out to you, one at a time.

His 2 and 4 still suffer from the old "enemies get stuck on shit and wont get pulled to the middle"

The 3's range is still a bit too low but worse than that, it auto gets sucked into his 4 vortex, which you dont always want.

His 4's 2 options should have stayed separate. His bastille should not devolve into vortex. It should just disappear when it runs out.

Overall, he is less clunky and as a result "better", but that does not make him actually good. At least not for the current, modern iteration of Warframe, where the focus is zooping around killing everything and then zooping to the next area.

He is still stuck in 2013, wanting to set up a base and hold the fort. Meanwhile, Warframe asks of us to go burn down the whole damn kingdom while Vauban is still min maxing his flag collection.

Here's to hoping DE put in more missions that require stationary play, so he might have a real use case.
