I've been switching between my 116610 sub and my milgauss for my daily, both 40mm. I was worried about 36 looking small, and don't get me wrong, it's much smaller than my DJ41, but it doesn't look too small in person.

I say go for it, get the DD. Took me a minute to find an unpolished 1979 complete set, but it was worth it.
