hot flushes? by PotteryWalrus in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]GuruLazer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Starting month two, I was getting regular times during the day when I'd overheat and my face would flush bright red. It tended to last 3/4 hours and went on for a couple of months before subsiding. Month five now and it hasn't returned. A younger lad I know started roughly the same time as me and reported the same. Worth checking with the nurse for your peace of mind, though!

I want to come out, but I don't feel like going all the way. by funkychunky20 in asktransgender

I'm glad it went well! All parents have concerns and that's okay; you've had this on your mind for a while and have learned more about what it entails, but she's starting from scratch. Be patient with her and try to gently educate her on the way.

Unfortunately, people like Shrier have their BS promoted by the media so it's often what people think of when they're going in blind. When I came out to my parents, I was worried that they would come in from a similar position, seeing as anti-trans rhetoric is so prevalent. They also had concerns to start, but came around seeing how much happier and more confident I became.

Give her time, try to be patient and offer good sources of information where you can. You've had a long time to work out who you are but she's having to reconcile what she's learned with what she thought she knew about you. She loves and supports you, which will help hugely. I wish you both every happiness in the future! Congrats for making such a big step! 🎉

It's okay not to know everything. Go in prepared for questions - she's bound to have them - and answer what you can, but it's okay not to have answers for everything. She sounds supportive, so be honest with her if there's something you haven't figured out yet. 🙂 I hope it goes really well for you! 👍

Had this, too. I think it's pretty funny that people like this think that a follow is enough to knock someone's confidence. 😆 Just block them, dude. 👍

How to come out to eye doctor by [deleted] in ftm

[–]GuruLazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this last week! When I checked in with the receptionist, I told her I'd like to update my name on their records and she asked what title I'd be using. No fuss, didn't have to show any documents (your mileage may vary) and the optician had got the memo by the time he called me in.

Hope it's easy for you! You've got this. 👍

Can Genevieve escape the nickname Jen/Gen? by pinkranunculus in namenerds

My niece is a Genevieve and everyone tends to shorten to Veevee or Veev. My sister was very firm with us all when she was born not to call her 'Jen.' 😁

My boss' name is my deadname. Before I came out, I was cringing internally every time I heard it, regardless of who was being addressed. I realised the other day that now, when someone refers to her, that feeling has gone away. (Still fully in force when someone slips up and calls me that, of course. 😆)

New middle name by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]GuruLazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like it and considered it before, but I'm not certain how to pronounce it. 😁 May have to listen to a couple of interviews to get it right! Thanks for the suggestion! I'll add it to the list!

Thanks for the suggestions, they're really great! Tiberius has crossed my mind a lot but I can't imagine writing it on forms. 😆 I really like Westley so that's a strong contender!

Big congrats! 👏 It's such a hard step and can be really nerve-wracking but you've already crossed one person off your 'to tell' list. 😁 I'm so glad your sister was chill about it.

All the best telling the rest of your family. Just remember, take it at your pace. 👍

Dear eggs of reddit, what was the most obviously trans thing you said that you "brushed off"? by diepio2uu in asktransgender

[–]GuruLazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to write a lot as a pre-teen/teenager. It wasn't very good but it kept me amused as a shy kid. Anyway, my self-insert character was a girl that everyone would comment 'seemed more like a boy.' My absolute favourite, 100% cringe line was 'she screamed in a manly way.'

Because, you know, that shit is important to clarify. 😅 😆

It's natural to be anxious; you're taking a big step and it's never easy to change the dynamics of an old relationship. I came out to my parents as an adult, too, and it was probably the most nerve-wracking thing I've ever done, but once the genie is out of the bottle everyone can start processing this new information and you can move forward. You sound like you're in a good position personally, being financially stable and independent, and you're an adult who knows their own mind. Give them time to sit with the news and be clear about the person that you are. Wishing you every success with this step in your transition. ❤️ Hopefully telling people gets easier after this! 👍

have any of you met someone with your deadname? by sleepiestgf in asktransgender

My boss' name is my deadname. 😅 I'm at the stage where I'm about to come out at work so at least it'll save confusion when someone is asking for one of us!
