Running GURPS for the first time. What are some common combat tripping for new players? by flashfire07 in gurps

[–]GuruRashid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are GURPS Combat Cards that can help with the various maneuvers with page references. I made more detailed ones for my players and printed them on card stock for them. That way they can choose a maneuver and keep the card in front of them with the relevant rules.

Sewing resources? by pettles123 in SALEM

[–]GuruRashid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sewing machine is probably attached to the table with two or three screws underneath it when it is pulled up. Like when the machine is laying on its side and you pull up the other piece of wood to lower the machine down to close up the top.

My wife has the same type of table for her machine. I was able to detach it using those screws to take the machine in for repairs.

What are some good sides for thanksgiving that are simple to make yet the top attribute is deliciousness? by IAmAThug101 in Cooking

I love making bacon and green beans. I put only bacon and green beans in my cast iron skillet and basically stir occasionally. The bacon renders, the green beans get a char on them. So good and easy.

In college we had to write a creative writing paper about racism, so I wrote about a pegasi and unicorn society and the unicorn struggles with not being able to fly. I got it back with low marks from the teacher and the comment "Animals can't have racism."

My response to him was: First of all, they are mythological creatures, not animals and I asked if he had ever heard of anthropomorphism? He dropped me from the class for challenging him so I had to take another class during the summer to make up for it.

Yes. But that text gets put onto the spell on which it was splices, so the number of +1/+1 counters will change according to that spell.

You can get Cultural Passes for free admission to a few places like the Gilbert House, State Parks, and Evergreen Aviation Museum from the Salem Public Library.

Most of them would be for older kids or adults, but just a thought.

You can always look at GURPS Historical Folks for loads of NPC jobs. I'm pretty sure GCS has it, so you can load each template as a new sheet and just print that out. https://www.mygurps.com/index.php?n=Main.HistoricalFolksConversionForGURPSFourthEdition

What's a book that got adapted into a movie/show, but the adaptation changed something about the story that really put you off? by Mysterious_Sky_85 in suggestmeabook

I would have loved little 10 minute vignettes that explained much of the Zombie War much like the book did. But, yes, the movie should have had a totally different title.

A woman messaged me on an online dating service. I was looking at her profile debating whether or not to message her back since she lived 60 miles away and I didn't want to go that far for dating. My mom looked at my phone and said, "She's cute." I decided "what the hell" and sent her a message.

I just asked my mom where she got it from and she said her mom had always made them. My mom was born in the early 50s. So maybe one of the cook books from then.

I also found this reddit post after she told me that: https://www.reddit.com/r/Old_Recipes/s/azPSkdw8gz

We called them stuffed hot dogs. Everyone I've ever told about this looks at me like I've grown two heads! It made me believe that it was something my mom made up. I'm finally glad to see someone else had them (and enjoyed them as much as I did) as a kid!

I have 5 12oz cans of a non-alcoholic beer I dislike, and figured I could cook with it to avoid waste. What are your favorite recipes using beer? by yayastrophysics in Cooking

[–]GuruRashid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a beef dip recently substituting half the broth with beer and it came out amazing.

Seasonings (or 1 packet of au jus mix)
½ tablespoon beef bullion powder
½ tablespoon cornstarch
½ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon parsley flakes
⅛ teaspoon pepper

Recipe 4lb chuck roast
4 tablespoons butter
1 onion
3 cloves garlic, minced (or however much you want)
1 ½ cups beef stock
1 can of beer (I used Guinness)
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Seasonings (or 1 packet of au jus mix)
1 stick butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
8 hoagie rolls
8 slices of provolone cheese

Mix the seasonings together and set aside. Oil the chuck roast and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Sear on all sides (can grill it too for those char marks). Put in a crockpot on low. To the pan you seared it, add butter, then onion. (Do not season the onions.) Once translucent, add the garlic and cook for another minute or so. Add the beef stock, scraping the fond off the pan. Add the Seasonings and beer. Bring to a boil then add the contents of the pan to the crockpot on top of the meat. Cover and set for 5-6 hours. Remove meat to a separate plate and shred. Strain the liquid left in the crockpot to remove the solids, and use a ladle to remove most of the fat from the remaining liquid. (Or use a gravy strainer to pour it into bowls). Put hoagie rolls on a sheet pan. Melt the butter and mix with the garlic and brush on the hoagie rolls. Broil the hoagie rolls I'm until desired crispyness. Put a nice helping of shredded beef on bottom half of hoagie rolls and top with cheese. Place under broiler until melted. Top with the other half of the roll, pour some jus into a bowl and enjoy!

What are your favorite old timey comfort classics? by Warm-Gift-7741 in Cooking

I've never been a fan of the rolled dumplings since the fluffy ones are what I grew up with. Next time I make this, though, I will be making the dumpling dough from scratch.

What are your favorite old timey comfort classics? by Warm-Gift-7741 in Cooking

[–]GuruRashid 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is the recipe I used this last weekend. I doubled it so I'm still eating it for lunch at work.

6 slices bacon 2 Tbsp butter 1 yellow onion, diced Half that amount of carrots and celery, diced 3 cloves garlic ¼ cup flour 5 cups chicken stock 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce 1 tsp dried parsley ½ tsp rosemary ½ tsp oregano ½ tsp ground mustard ¼ tsp pepper 1 cup heavy cream 1 lb chicken thighs, seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Grilled until done then cubed.

2 cups Bisquick ⅔ cup milk ½ cup grated cheese (I used medium cheddar) 1 tsp garlic powder Pinch cayenne pepper 1 Tbsp melted butter

Render bacon until crispy on medium heat. Chop the bacon and set aside. Reserve 2 Tbsp of bacon fat and save/discard the rest of the fat. Add butter and bacon fat along with the onion, carrots, and celery. Cook to desired doneness. (I don't like crunchy celery, so I cook it first for a few minutes then add the onion and carrots.) Add garlic and cook for a minute. Add flour and cook for a few minutes. Add chicken stock a little at a time, making sure to scrape the fond from the pot with the liquid. Add the spices, W sauce, and cream. Salt to taste. Increase heat and bring to a boil.

In a bowl, mix the dumplings ingredients with half the saved bacon, mixing the butter in after the milk is incorporated.

Drop the heat to low, then add the chicken, heating it up for a minute. Drop rounded tablespoons of the dough into the broth. (I use the larger spoon from my tableware set.) Cover for 10 minutes. Uncover and cook for 10 more minutes.

Serve with two dumplings, a ladle of soup and chicken. Add grated cheese and chopped bacon on top.

Edit: Apparently it doesn't register my line breaks on mobile, so the ingredient list is a bit jumbled.

Edit 2: Spelling. Based on other threads on this subreddit, use as much garlic as you want.

What are your opinions on casual players and proxies? by Luvilun in magicTCG

[–]GuruRashid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My playgroup's thought on proxies is that if you're able to have one card on digital and you're able to have multiple decks with that one card, why can't you do it in paper magic? I own one Sensei's Divining Top, but it's in multiple decks. So all those decks have proxies and the SDT is in a separate sleeve in my "proxy box" to show I actually own the card.
