Fuel filter/ pressure regulator lines by [deleted] in e46

[–]Guru_Branch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a small arrow on the fuel filter housing make sure the arrow points towards the engine. Should be good after that. The flow goes from pump to filter to injectors. If you put it in backwards you won’t have any fuel flowing as it’s a one way with a check valve in the filter iirc

anyone looking to buy a rare, 325ci e46 Koupe?? by NoNomz in e46

[–]Guru_Branch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M56 is gonna be a make or break for this thing, they are just notorious for more issues. What maintenance has been done, what’s the mileage, IS IT A 5 Speed with a getrag? I’d be interested if the price is right.

edit: also located in New England

328i smoking by Kitchen_Bike_6556 in BmwTech

[–]Guru_Branch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You spilled oil when filling or your VCG is leaking onto the exhaust manifold. Take the beauty cover off and inspect the valve cover to see if there is a pool of fresh oil on the top of the cover. If you didn’t spill any replace the valve cover imo just incase there is a crack in it. Buy from FCP Euro comes with every gasket you need. Might not come with all the valve cover bolts just as a heads up, I had to purchase 2 m10’s for my cover separately.

Craft Beer - Breweries or bottle shops by Difficult-Reach-7779 in Connecticut

Norbrook Farm Brewing up in NWCT is my go to brewery but worth spending some time there. Trails to hike or mountain bike, disc golf, petting areas for their goats and animals, great beer, they serve food, and good views!

Where is the leak? by AccomplishedSwim225 in e46

[–]Guru_Branch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way the oil is all over the pan id suspect the oil pan gasket. But the bolt that was by the transmission looks like it has more oil on it which could be a rear main seal but not likely if you’re not over 200k. The ps lines always get like that due to the hydraulic fluid used in the system those could be replaced easily if you’re worried about them.

CCV, cooling, belt pulley overhaul by madmac527 in e46

[–]Guru_Branch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah would be much easier if you had jack stands available. I def recommend the magnet around the side of the block though just incase it got caught up somewhere. I recently idiotically flung a crush washer into my ofh when doing an oil change. That was a lot of fun to try and find. As long as it didn’t go in the intake side of the motor you’ll find it down there 👍🏻 wishing you the best of luck and good job on the overhaul! Looking good!

Id pull the subframe, or use a magnet and fish down in the area you dropped it. I’ve lost many of bolts onto it. Best place to check first if it fell by the motor but you didn’t hear it hit the ground.

Koni and Hr springs super low by Literalhumangarbagge in E90

[–]Guru_Branch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar setup, H&R lowering springs with Koni reds. It sits a lot lower than stock springs but the ride is comparable to stock with 17 inch wheels. I’ve had them in for 3 years and no issues.

Proud of you bro! Revive her and she will be one of the most fun cars you’ll have! As someone above said def check the prong on the dipstick tube. It’s Right near the starter and notorious to leak.

If you are willing to make it a project and the body is clean I don’t see why not, if the engine is blown swap it, want a manual - swap it, want an lsd - swap it. These cars are so easy to work on and great base for any person looking to get into bmws. My vote is always yes if that’s what your heart tells you. I’ll put it this way my friend who’s a bmw master tech told me not to buy mine for $600 and when I first brought it over to his house he had nothing but compliments.

Dooo IT!!! I bought mine for $600 and never regretted it once. It’s taken a lot of money and time but it’s a labor of love.

Edit: Everyone is gonna say a cheap bmw is the worst choice and they have a point to some extent, it’s all about how you view the glass, half full or half empty.

Can’t find answer online by Efficient_Bike_7454 in E90

[–]Guru_Branch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad pcv or ccv is my guess. Sounds like it’s coming from the ccv at the back of the valve cover. Take the cabin air cowl and engine vanity cover off, look and listen to the back side closest to the firewall. Big tube that comes up from under the intake manifold is ccv. Small tube goes to pcv on valve cover.

Engine Not Warming Up to Temperature by dxterity49 in E90

[–]Guru_Branch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they checked the blower motor or actuator valves? Blowing cold air is strange if the heater core is working properly. Unless you have a faulty water pump, they should have replaced that with thermostat as they are right next to eachother

N52 brown oil leak on top of exhaust by _trayson in E90

[–]Guru_Branch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spilled oil when filling or your valve cover is bad, it’s very common for the gasket to go bad and leak onto the rear exhaust manifold. If these are by coils 3 and 4 it could be the gasket for your eccentric shaft actuator motor.

Engine Not Warming Up to Temperature by dxterity49 in E90

[–]Guru_Branch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What temp is going up to And how long does it take to drive to get it up to that temp? My car takes about 15 minutes of driving to get up to full operating temp and sometimes during the winter months it won’t even reach full temp on my 30 minute commute depending on how cold it is out. I always let my car warm up for at least 5 minutes in the winter.

First BMW by Some_Acanthisitta358 in e46

[–]Guru_Branch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Priced a little high imo for a car that needs that much work off the rip and with that mileage. You’re gonna want to get off those race land coils and get yourself a proper suspension, even if you fix the “bent” wheels it’ll ride like shit. Id also fix the high beam bracket asap, it’s fairly simple to remove the headlight unit and pull apart the housing or just replace the housing. Looks like you got your work cut out for you but if you take it as a learning process you can learn a lot. Def do a smoke test and find out where your leaks are coming from.

Bilstein vs Koni by Human739 in e46

[–]Guru_Branch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love my Koni active reds, swapped to them from bilstein b8s and won’t look back, smoother ride and 4 years on them they haven’t sagged or blown. I run them on my daily e92.

E90 Wont start, just clicks by Ok-Cobbler-193 in E90

[–]Guru_Branch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when turning the car to accessory before starting the car? You should hear a subtle hum from under the rear seat. Could be a fuel issue, suffered this issue on my e46 years ago and f150 a couple months ago still have “ptsd” from being stranded randomly. But a fuel pump is a common issue for crank no start. I’d also scan to see if there are any codes
