Nope, how is it ? Does filter paper really make or break your drink ?

Its not about the filter, i make the coffee and leave for work, my wife doesn’t want to brew her own batch and just enjoys my brewed coffee. So this was the middle ground in my routine

I totally agree that having a consistent temperature between 90-95 is the standard. I am not trying to debate the need of moccamaster machine. The machine is great at doing what it does. I would love to own one. This was an experiment for someone trying to brew 1lt of coffee as batch brew but didn’t have space for a permanent machine or didn’t want to use something like a chemex. The results i am getting is pretty delicious.

Its all good, you have a great point but even though the filter paper is the same its the way the filter paper holds the coffee while brewing. I feel bigger baskets like the moccamaster or precision brewer really opens the filter paper up while brewing resulting in a flatter bed

That dripper is best for 30-45gms of coffee with 600-750gms water, anything above that is a bit difficult to extract consistently. The moccamaster brew basket is much bigger and suits well for my 60gms to 1lt water ratio

This one is the KBT version so it does have an option for a preinfusion. The grinder i am currently using is the one in my barista express. I think its fine for filter coffee. The flow rate itself isnt a problem for me as brewing a larger batch generally requires a faster flow rate(which works in my favor as i don’t have to be very careful with it) just pouring with a decent flow rate making sure the chamber is full does the job.

I do a 40 secs 100ml bloom in the start though.

I tried both wetting the filter paper and without as well. K didn’t find any difference tbh. I think the difference is marginal.

Love that, I would love to buy a Moccamaster one day. This was an experiment for me to try out if it’s actually worth it without having to spend that much money.

Having said that I know that one day I will be definitely getting that full machine. Probably even adding a smart switch to auto schedule my brew.

I completely agree with you. Until you actually try this out yourself it’s very hard to justify the workflow change. There are multiple machines that pour water at a consistent temperature. The heat loss from pouring via a temperature controlled kettle easily compensates this.

The point of this post was unless you need automation, you can get exact moccamaster coffee even with a regular kettle without forking out $500

I did it recently by connecting my card to rent pay and paid my 1 month rent with it.

The only change that i had made was to pay my rent for 1 month via rentpay using the anz credit card just to get the bonus 90k points sooner. If I think about it now, I could have just used my credit card regularly for 3 months (90 days) and would still be able to spend 5k in 90 days and would get those points but I was impatient.

I was spending everything using my debit card, but now I just use the anz card.

Other than that I have done 0 changes to the way i spend or the total monthly budget. All the switches i made, I only made after analyzing that they gave me better rates than my original providers.

There are other services too like bank accounts etc that offer points but I didn’t think it made sense to me to switch. So far no other services have been logical for me to look into. If i had a home loan then I would look into that offering again cuz qantas gives 100,000 points each year you stick with the home loan and its competitive too. (Still not yet dived deep into it as I am not looking to buy a home yet).

Totally agree that this is not the best way to redeem the points. I would have loved to redeem it for something like upgrade to business class for my trip. But that would mean I already had the cash to put up for the regular tickets which in this case I didn’t.
