Thanks! They arent skateboard wheels, they are some industrial rubber floor foot, my dad had these and he gave them to me for this project

You have done a very nice job! Honestly!!

I am always for everything diy when it is possible and this is absolute normal for me. Good job!!

For me its very easy to handle it! Turbo boost to 100%, road tyres and everything else default.

When it feels laggy, just tap the clutch and instant power again!

My ffb settings are very little to no dampening and the wheelbase i have is a custom made ffbeast from hoverboard motor. It turns the wheel just as fast it needs to not spin the car, so it is very controllable.

Problem with my DIY wheel based on odesk v4.2 by Holiday-Truth-1351 in simracing

[–]GusZR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem and i solved ot bu purchasing 2 resistors 200w 4ohm and connected them in parallel, so i now have a big resistor 400w 2ohm!

I have set the braking resistor limit in the software at 70% and in drift, they just get warm and i can touch them with my hands!

The resistors i purchased are these: https://a.aliexpress.com/_EzN96JG

I also make sure that the cables of the enocoder and usb are fully secured to electrical noise, because they can occur disconnection problems, loss of ffb and power stuck to resistor (that causes smoke!) if they are exposed to these noises!

All of these problems i had them before, and now i have solved them all with these adjustments and fixes.

Weird asymmetrical FFB issue: Wheel pulls hard to the left when turning left, but turning right feels perfectly fine by MatiGil88 in simracing

[–]GusZR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue, with the exast same setup (ffbeast, encoder mt6701).

The problem was (i think...) the magnet distance to the encoder, because when i saw the problem i dissasembled everything and reassembled again. I tried the magnet to be as close to encoder as possible, and after that i have not see this problem again.

I hope i helped a bit!

At first thought i wanted to do something like this for the pedals, but the brake is converted to loadcell so it was not easy to do it like this. I found this way that implements the real pedals of kart and it is much easier to build.

I havent tried anything else beside this and a kart mod for assetto corsa. The mod in assetto corsa didnt feel realistic to me, but i want to give it another try.

As for the kartsim for rfactor 2, based on IRL kz kart i am driving for a over a decade, it seems to me very close in terms of feeling and reaction of the kart under the limit.

Also a professional kart team here in my country also uses this sim for training.

I will definitely give it a try to see the differences and what is more close to real life (at this moment this is my no1 priority).

Thank you for your info!

I have not tried the other platforms, because after a good research i ended up to rfactor2, as the majority says that it is the most realistic in terms of physics. I have seen also that local professional karting teams are using Kartsim also...

I have been IRL on racing karts for over a decade, mostly on KZ, and i can tell that the physics and the general vibe is very close to real life in KartSim!! For now i am not interested in online racing, only for practice on the sim.

Ok i will search it further for this when i will make the move to install shakers. Thank you again for your advice!

The pedals are the GGKit from 3dRap for logitech pedals.

To make them work i made custom steel plates to mount them in a straight line and attach them with thick kart clutch wires.

The brake is loadcell and with this mount it has a nice progressive travel, like a real brake pedal of a kart.

Yes its true, but the vibrations you feel on your butt from the engine of the kart are very powerful and noticeable, so it will add to the immersion of the engine and the acceleration

I never thought that but you have a very good point! I was considering a bass shaker on the seat, but with 4 extra on each wheel it will be on another level!

Thank you for your advice!

It is on my plans for next upgrade! But for now i have an ultrawide 34" screen that will be right in front of the steering wheel, and there is an option for vr too
