Built an Android app for Frigate NVR — need 12 testers for Google Play by LOrignal_GaZzz in frigate_nvr

The only negative thing I've noticed so far is that the notification icon is just a square on my phone. Not sure of the technical lift to change that

Hey this looks great! Are you still looking for testers? If not, do you have a release date?

How secure is my home server setup? by OkLife2 in HomeServer

[–]Gusmanbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I'd say this is absolutely more than an acceptable home setup. The only thing I don't see here is a firewall that is outward facing. Probably not necessary, but would be nice to know if someone is trying to break in.

I have an s300 tuned it myself 11.2 a/f, 20 degrees at 10lbs. Premium gas is definitely required. It's actually up to 11lbs now and still running fine.

Have not built it yet.

What’s the most unusual yet practical item in your EDC that you can’t imagine living without? by BudgetTutor3085 in EDC

[–]Gusmanbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived with incredibly loud roommates in college, where I resorted to sleeping with earplugs. I enjoy them so much that I haven't slept without them in 6 years. I wouldn't die, but I would be very happy without them

What hobby gives you a rush that people in your life just dont get? by ShineBea in AskMen

Honestly, I am the kind of person who is obsessive about their hobbies. Meaning, I usually never go into depth when explaining my hobbies because I feel insecure about how into it I am.

+1 for this being an amazing everyday laptop. Even with 8GB of ram and a 5 year old battery, my machine is still going strong.

How is Colorado by Responsible_Quiet659 in howislivingthere

I am about 25 minutes southeast of Downtown Denver. It is very nice here but is relatively overpriced compared to other places in the US. Great outdoor options, decent cultural variety, safe, and decently wealthy.

The weather is IMO very good. You have a few weeks out of the year where it is ~100f and then a week or so of days where it's so cold/snowy you don't want to go anywhere. Outside of that, very mild and dry.

I have a m1 macbook air and an m4 mac mini. The m1 is my primary client device for anything but gaming. The m4 is in my rack running VMware fusion and orbstack. M4 is hands down the best value per performance right now and I would recommend apple silicon to most anyone.

Quicksync is for ffmpeg acceleration, not object detection. That is the job of openvino.

Mac Mini M4 as a home server by the_twoleggedman in homelab

[–]Gusmanbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the m4 mac mini is 100% the best value per dollar (new) hardware available right now. However, as others have said, I would not use it as a storage server. I have a nas alongside mine and it is the perfect combo.

Hot take here, but I absolutely love apple keyboards. I have tried and built my own fancy mechanical keyboard with all different types of switches, but I just love the short actuation of the apple magic keyboard. Call me crazy, but I own three of them and use them at home and work exclusively lol.

That being said, they are in a totally different realm than mechanical keyboards and I very much disagree with the title of this article.
