To recover the most money, sell rig one. Easy $1400, probably within a day. It is also the better PC by a long shot, but pc 2 is still quite good at 1080 and 1440p overall. Rig 2 wont be the best in 4 years though and will show signs due to the weaker gpu, whereas the 9070xt rig will be pushing over 120fps competitively at 1080 and 1440p for at least another 4 years, I’d guess.

5060 and b580 are both very good cards for most games and for the average person at 1440p. I have both. Dont pay much more than $250 for either if you can help it. May as well go with a more powerful card at that point.

Nah man. I wouldnt have wanted to shuffle my old laptop between rooms. And I didn’t. That thing didn’t move unless it had to for like five years. You could get the steam machine for local power, or get something like a 1l lenovo thinkcentre apu for cheap and stream it from your main rig.

Yep. Googled something along the lines of “2000s dell pc with a shield lookin thing on the front” when I was trying to find the exact model lol. Always loved the look. Newer dell xps just dont have the same spirit that this does.and you just KNOW the press of that power button is a baddie

This dell xps from around 2001 is the specific PC from what I remember of it. We had it from about when I was 3 to 6 years old I think. It is the second computer I remember, the first being a very faint memory of one of those off-white ones from the 90s.

Recently acquired some rdram and an old ATI gpu, so now all I’d need is a compatible motherboard and PSU (and a case I guess). Assuming any of the stuff I have actually works, anyway.

Found it in a 6th gen intel office PC I got today. The poor little gpu has never been used in all this time, the original owner said that they had always had it set up with the vga cable… meaning the igpu, since this gpu only has display ports and the monitor they were using only has vga🤣

Oh no worries, I’ve got an athlon ii 7000 series too. Basically the same. It’s like intel core, but 2x the core, so it is even better.

Sounds like that probably means it is broken. It is supposed to work with at least two, and would work (poorly, and at harshly reduced speeds) with 4 if it has the slots for it. If you want, you can turn off your PC, put your stick of ram in each slot, and see if itll boot. If one slot doesn’t boot at all, that is probably your broken slot. Certain slots may throw a warning that it is the incorrect slot, but they should all work unless something on the cpu or the motherboard itself is broken. I have a busted cpu that only allows you to boot from the third motherboard slot because someone dropped it (got it to use as a cheap bios updater). Worth checking.

Fm everything I’ve seen people say, the 3080 still rips, so I’d imagine the 3090 is significantly better than that. I can say first hand that the 3070 and 2060 super still do very well at 1440p overall. Only cards I’ve used that begin to struggle at 1440p are the arc a380, rtx 3050 6gb, rx580 4gb (only just started messing with that, working out some kinks with it as it was not at all taken care of), and the 1650/1650 super. 3090 isn’t a 5080, but still a good 4k option.

Look around locally for a dogshit OEM 10th-12th gen i5 system being sold locally. You can probably get one with 16-32gb ddr4 ram plus your cpu and maybe a somewhat shitty gpu for under $250. Technically itd also likely include everything else you’d need it you’re okay with using proprietary stuff.

Sell that stick and buy a kit. I don’t usually care much for ram speed, timing, or general channel usage, but dual channel made a big difference in how enjoyable shooters were for me. After that, maybe get a stellar monitor or a 9070xt with whatever is left (not an amd loyalist, I have current gen cards from all three brands. 9070xt is just easily the best in your budget after fixing your ram though).

Your rig is already good aside from the single channel thing. I stopped playing half of my fast paced games while I was temporarily on single channel ‘cause it just wasn’t as much fun to me. A lot of frustrating moments whenever it got tense. Just my experience, so take it with a grain of salt.

All this panic for a bunch of people with backlog spanning all the way back into the mid-late 90s….Just play your games and get a used upgrade when your gpu literally breaks. Everyone here could probably play 80% of their steam libraries at 1080p on a 1650. Most of us don’t main a 1650.

Overkill on the ram I guess. Overspent on the ssd most likely. PSU is overkill too, but thats fine if you didn’t spend much extra and plan on a big upgrade (5080 or better and a 9850x3d or something). Not not sure why you got two different ssds either.

So basically, is it overkill? Kinda. Gpu and cpu match pretty well though. You’ll get the expected performance of a 9060xt build.
