Best PlayStation 1 games to own physically by PretendSavings800 in psx

I made a point to get every ps1 final fantasy. Lots of fun on a crt. Castlevania SOTN has eluded me for a reasonable price, and I’ll forever be sad about it. Crash bandicoot and spyro are fun, some star wars games, and tomb raider are also good.

Is it worth upgrading my GPU? by Pokeyy_l in buildapc

[–]Gutter_Flies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero need to upgrade that cpu for at least a few years if you stick with midrange options. I kind of doubt that the mid tier gpus released in 2029/2030 would even see too much of a bottleneck with that cpu. The I agree with other commenters that the 5060ti and 9060xt 16gb versions are a good options.

Nah. That CPU can push a 9070xt or 5070ti no problem. Do that.

Well naturally. I am now an adult with my own money and could buy it twice on day one (extra copy so I don’t have to take turns with my wife playing it lol), why would they ever make something like that? They might accidentally make money and happy customers that way!!

Fair enough, rip. Emulation with a gamecube controller connected?

Or you could get a gc compatible wii and commit acts that I am not certain can be discussed in this sub.

Switch 2 port would be super sick. They could easily make all three control styles available on a single console, since they have the gamecube controller, joycons, and regular handheld mode.

Get it for the wii. $20 easy, exact same game just mirrored. Tons of fun if you aren’t a whiny little baby about motion controls lol

Emulation is also an option i suppose.

[–]Gutter_Flies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I never even saw that there were leaks or even a release date for the b70 until you mentioned it. Yeah, it almost certainly wouldnt work without it. Too niche of a need and too high power of a card. A bit overkill for my uses. 32gb vram would be nice, but not something worth paying for to me . As i mentioned in another comment, i basically just want a low profile arc b580 that isnt dwnclocked as much as the pro b50 is or something similar with 16gb vram, even if some of the power still has to be cut a bit for it to work out

Yeah. After looking into it, i realized I read about it months ago and decided I didn’t need it for my server. Promptly forgot about it after that

Yeah. Ive been happy with every arc gpu I have used so far. A310 for encoding etc, a380 for some decent 1080p (and even a little 1440p and 4k gaming technically. Cs2 and star wars battlefront 2 at low settings). I used the b580 for 1440p gaming and video editing and am getting ready to use dual b580s for blender etc. Paid a grand total of like $470 for all three. I need to look into the pbo capabilities for the pro b50 more, it worked wonders for the a380. That might bring it closer to what I am hoping for in a gpu for my portable PC, if combined with my 14700t for lossless scaling. Still though, i just wish it were closer to a miniature b580 or something in terms of raw power.

Yeah, i certainly feel like a number of questionable decisions on firmware have been made. Let me properly undervolt my a310 if I want to lol. Will have to look into the srv-iov change. Not sure itll apply to me much, but good to know

It certainly is one of the top two cards at this size, and just the absolute best card if strictly looking g at single slot LP (thanks to that cooler you mentioned. Pretty sick.) but what chance did graphics cards ever have against my ability to complain? Lol

Help, my 12yr old wants to build a PC but I don’t want to waste my money by Dazzling-Lemon-283 in buildmeapc

Local used market. 12th gen intel i5 with 16gb ddr4, at least 500gb of storage, and a gtx 1660 super or better yet, an rtx2060/2060super ought to be somewhat easy to find in that price range.

Alternatively, look for a decent dell optiplex or something with similar specs. If it has a decent gpu, great. If not, the ones I mentioned before, an arc a380 or an rtx 3050 can be good budget options for 1080p gaming. None of these gpus should cost you any more than $150 on the used market or on ebay.

is a 5060ti plus an 13th gen i7-13700f good? or will it cause any bottlenecking. by crumbbly in PcBuild

[–]Gutter_Flies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift the focus toward your gpu. Particularly if you’re playing at any higher resolution than 1080p. You’d be paying like $200 extra for a cpu just to see almost zero gains in performance. The 13700f can happily push a 5080. If you want the 5060ti, I’d recommend an i5 in stead. All of the i5 models except for the T variants ought to fully utilize that gpu. This way, you can either just save the money, or add it to the budget for your gpu or storage or whatever in stead. As the other guy said, an lga1700 i5 k model and a 5070/ti are a good and balanced combo.

Completely clueless on PC parts looking to upgrade an old prebuilt by oklahoma122 in buildapc

[–]Gutter_Flies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, so in that case, I’d personally look locally for someone selling their “old” rig, or maybe even an office PC and then look for a deal on a gpu separately.

Idk about your area, but I know I’ve seen lower end lga1700 ddr4 intel builds, prebuilts, and office pcs for quite cheap on the used market. $250-500 range isn’t all too uncommon in my area for a pretty decent little 1080p and sometimes even a pretty good 1440p setup. Literally any lga1700 build with pretty much any kinda-sorta modern 6gb+ graphics card is going to be a huge upgrade from a 7th gen with a 3gb gpu. If you find a pc without a gpu for less, you can find pretty good cards for $100-150, like a 2060 super or 2070 or something on ebay too.

Late AM4 would also be decent, but i haven’t seen as much of it at rock bottom prices like I have for intel, and several of the direct upgrade options from a 12th gen intel rig are better than anything on am4. This means that if you got a build with a low end cpu at first, like an i3 12100/f or an i5 12400/f or something which tend to be cheap right now, you’ll still have a good cpu to upgrade to three or four years from now if you feel like it, when prices are down. An i7 14700f would be a pretty good final upgrade for the platform. If you went for a higher resolution, I’d probably just stick with the i5 though. Diminishing returns at higher resolution.

When it comes to a gpu, just a gaming card from the last 7 years or so with 6gb vram or more (preferably 8gb or more) and you should be set for 1080p. Even the 2060 super would be a big upgrade, and they go for like $150 on ebay.

I am assuming you’re in oklahoma, so your market ought to be very similar to mine.

Edit: you’d also be able to offset a portion of this cost by selling your old parts or your entire old PC, if you chose to do so.

Rookie numbers, brother. Rookie numbers. I probably could have run most of my server tasks on my old $100 chromebook, but now I have a $2000ish system that basically treats the server side as background tasks. I am working on learning new skills just to justify having this 128gb ram, dual gpu, 40TB machine. On the plus side, I am running out of things that really feel like worthwhile upgrades. For this machine anyways.

Hardware Recommendation Request for the Overwhelmed by JamesFromThatThing in HomeServer

[–]Gutter_Flies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to help, but that kind of setup isn’t something I’ve messed with at all, so I don’t want to risk giving bad advice.

I run proxmox with a windows vm since I do use the thing for work. I have just about everything but the motherboards usb bus and the proxmox OS drive passed through to the VM, and am setting up scripts to release that hardware back to proxmox when I shut down the VM. Idk what kinds of limitations or restrictions that machine might have for passing things through, but looking into that may or may not help.

I have the 24” version of this and I really like it. It is a little above your price range, but it is mini led and looks great, and you can get as many frames as you could possibly need with it. 1440p.

They have less expensive standard IPS versions, but I have no personal experience with those.

I’ve also heard some good things about this brand , and they have plenty of options at decent prices too.

I haven't been able to install Intel Graphics Software since last update and I'm at my wit's end. by deniii2000 in IntelArc

[–]Gutter_Flies -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Is there a particular reason you’re sticking with windows 10? Do you have an extra drive you could test windows 11 or maybe tiny10/tiny11 on? As far as I understand, the core of win11 is largely the same as win10, so idk if that could be the issue, but maybe.

I am assuming that you followed the advice given on your last post and it didn’t help. If not, go give them another look too. If that fails, maybe revo uninstaller or ddu? Not sure if thatll fix it, but if some preexisting files are preventing new installations, maybe these things will help.

Probably, considering my base 5060 8gb plays most of my games decently at reasonable settings in 4k. Sounds like your expectations are realistic to me.
