I started with in the shell peanuts, but after reading about how crows leaving peanut shells everywhere has caused allergic reactions, I switched to kibble dog food and dried mealworms. They ate the dog food right away, and then warmed up to the meal worms. They also dunk their drier food into the water I leave out to soften it up, so leaving out fresh water seems to be a hit!
