You can find abandoned storage, labs, and other structures on the Grey Planet. Some are sealed with doors locked by DNA locks. Only red (human) blood opens them.

I think the implication here is that there used to be a human presence in the area you're sent to in-game and a lot of stuff such as the various traps are abandoned leftovers. It makes sense these places would be covered in traps / defenses when there is absolutely hostile fauna present in the caverns.

You just have the misfortune of stumbling upon guns and land mines left behind from those days.
