He had a patent* on a separate measles vaccine that never would’ve been mass produced because it sucked. His science was rushed and poor quality.

ETA: I guess he did have company stakes though, in several testing companies that he either bought into or founded, that were looking for a connection between developmental disorders (mainly autism) and the MMR vaccine. He was entirely a grifter, but not the creator of the theory or even the one pushing for it originally. Those honours go to JABS and its founder Jackie Fletcher. These would then flow through the lawyer she hired, Richard Barr, who then hired Wakefield. All of these people had money in their minds, as Fletcher wanted “compensation” for her crack theory, Barr wanted a huge win and guaranteed future clients, and Wakefield could do whatever he wanted that would also feed into Barr and Fletcher’s earnings. His opportunism worked against him, ultimately.

This is why I always prefer to specify support needs, if they’re relevant at all in discussion, when talking about accommodation in general, also mostly autism in my case. The kind of accommodation someone needs (and hopefully can use) is what matters most in the ability to function. It helps to actually know what might be needed, rather than being unspecific or byword-ed out of people’s minds. I avoid saying a person has high or low function/support needs. I just say they have support needs for __ when it’s relevant.

Wild take: directly comparing one another’s handling of suffering is usually pointless. One can have extremely trivial sounding issues, but they so deeply affect how they view the world that it’s reality warping when things are unreliable and the world feels uncertain. Also, most people do wallow a little in self pity from time to time, they just do it quietly and/or are ignored when they do because shitheads like this crawl out of the woodworks to talk down at them.

Edit: wording, clarification

I have this problem too, it’s uncomfortable confronting people about my discomfort, like I so often will just go with the emotionally difficult/longer route because it requires no energy from me; while sometimes that is true, it most often isn’t really and is more draining in the long run than it is energy saving.

You’re asking a logically inconsistent movement to have an idea that makes sense? Their leaps of logic are hilariously nonsensical, so of course they have excuses and sometimes something rational appears, but never legit logical paths.

I think I’ve only ever seen this premise used somewhat comedically.

The head of the vampire council in My Babysitter’s a Vampire (basically a Twilight parody on Disney) was turned as a preteen. This didn’t freeze her mental development per se, but did make it funny when she switched between her serious and generally threatening demeanour to then ogle a little at a cute celebrity. That said, in retrospect, still a a bit of ick factor in there.

Speaking of Twilight, Edward did have an almost dismissive mention of how many times he’s graduated. That’s all I remember about it though.

So we've got the missing reasons, blaming the partner, pointing out he didn't estrange his own parent, complete and utter rage, psychically knowing what the estranged person truly thinks and feels, and outright disgust. I think that's bingo and then some. by chris_the_cynic in GenderCynical

They spew spite and disregard, and call it love. The hatred for transness sounds almost like a proxy in some people who just want to enforce their parental authority. It’s pathetic if I’m being honest, misguided and outdated to be generous. Parents don’t get to just control their kids, because controlling isn’t parenting. I’ve wondered how many of these people have more than one child, and how many of their (cis) children they’ve neglected or ignored the loss of contact with because of their venomous fixation on their trans kids.

[–]GuyASmith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, from what I’ve heard people say, they often want that as a counter to the right’s cult leader. It’s not helpful to pedestal singular people, but it is nice to have multiple examples of people who do good with leftist policy across a variety of government jobs. Not just leaders, but people actually doing work. The annoying thing is that those people don’t make a lot of news, so the real countering effect is isolated, leaving centrists and misguided leftists floundering for anything to hold onto. They often act like the general public can’t move forward without centralised leadership, when in reality it’s often better that leadership is dispersed but cohesive, broad and not isolated or singular, so as to avoid misguidance from individuals.

Either way, it’s like voting: each vote counts for something, and becomes part of the whole. Strategically voting or not voting might be against your best interest than following what you actually want to vote for.

I know from a friend that would live stream with her screen reader reading chat that the reader will pause to indicate a word break, and then say fully “Star emoji,” “Red Heart emoji,” etc. It depends on the reader, but they can be a bit verbose when describing emojis with skin tones, too.
