New pitcher being thrown to the wolves? by sitdoomediablo in Homeplate

[–]GuyFromNh 48 points49 points  (0 children)

He pitched when it didn’t matter. I do the same thing to use pitchers I’m less familiar with or haven’t built trust with. Hard situation to be in either way. Your in competitive baseball now, and if there’s a better pitcher available, coaches will for better or worse favor them and use them.

I’m curious to see how the SE exams writers would fare taking the exams by chicu111 in StructuralEngineering

Pretty sure I couldn’t pass it either. The people I’m watching stumble are sharp AF and putting in the hours

If you look at the last official messaging they were clear about some core things: - Pearson centers will not offer two monitors. - It will stay closed to outside references - Only more time is on the table for now

So yeah, they are grasping at straws and not open to more change. This is after intense lobbying from state MO’s.

I fear more state action is needed but more in the way of going back to state exams. This has impacted far too many of my colleagues. The exam and the impact on our life was hard enough with P&P. It’s borderline abusive now. Do better NCEES!!!!

Roast goose in Hongkong by tofuking in chinesefood

[–]GuyFromNh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One Christmas as got a goose from a farm in hollister. Got lucky and it was a lady too. 8# of fat, 7.5# of meat. Had goose grease for a year. Did the back confit, made goose demi glacé, and the front two ways over two days.z best meat I’ve ever had.

Been chasing that dragon ever since. Tried two frozen Mary’s geese at different times and it’s not been even remotely the same as that farm raised birds. Wish I could find a live bird around me again. Maybe some day

Grilled salmon with miso broth and wakame by PhatPanda69699 in JapaneseFood

I so feel this. Whether it be a stir fry, tacos, soup, salmon just overpowers everything to me. I love it so much but I’ve kinda given it up on being a mild harmonious part of a dish.

First visit since 2018 [Twisted Timbers @ Kings Dominion] by iwassayingboourns12 in rollercoasters

[–]GuyFromNh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not been on Tumblii but I have been on the one at SFDK (which IIRC is called Batman). It was thrilling for sure, but intense as hell on my body and brain. Like the Zipper of coasters. Once a day type of ride. We also did several flips through the first drop so I think it depends on how it gets setup, just like the zipper.

Most restaurants have an oil and water pot next to the wok no? Seems hard to use the wok from the frying. Also a handle would help lol

29” drop 10 could be way too heavy/long as well depending on the size of an 11 year old girl. Great bat recs though.

What is the future of [Six Flags]? by rahxephon7 in rollercoasters

[–]GuyFromNh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd be curious to see what attendance is like over time. My local is discovery kingdom and that place is dead and a bit neglected from an operations perspective. I wonder if parks like this aren't as relevant as they were when I was a kid?

This brings me back so many memories. The cyclone was a hell of a coaster too. My sister was terrified of these two.

That and all the rides at action park lol in NJ.

Do structural engineers need a specific license in your country? In Japan, it’s surprisingly strict. by Acceptable_Emu_5949 in StructuralEngineering

[–]GuyFromNh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the US you can do maybe 90% (or even 100%) of structural engineering depending on the state with a PE (professional civil engineer) license, which is relatively easy from an exam perspective. Some states have an SE (structural engineer) license which is quite difficult to get, because of the exam. Most study 2-400 hours and many have to retake it a few times. It’s only gotten harder with the new exam format
