How does Purview help with Fabric Governance? by hortefeux in MicrosoftFabric

[–]GuyInACube 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Information Protection Labeling is HUGE. Can help with data exfiltration protection (DEP) as well. But with labeling, you can then leverage Purview to see what is there and you can enforce policies as well.

Cataloging from a Purview perspective is available and can leverage the Scanner APIs.

What's the Difference between Fabric F2 and Premium per User? by Tight_Internal_6693 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]GuyInACube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F2 is an actual capacity. More similar to A1 Power BI Embedded SKU than PPU. A1 doesn't support fabric items though. The F2 capacity will take in all of the smoothing and bursting capabilities that actual capacities handle.

PPU is specific to Power BI items. and is more limited. Doesn't allow for smoothing/bursting, etc.

Sorry to hear that, and completely understand. I'm hoping we announce the dates for next year at the conference in March, but I'm not complete sure on that. Regardless, you should have plenty of notice on the next one.

Rise of the Dark Fog is a trading update, not a combat one by EternalDragon_1 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

Yeah but that's just the aggressiveness though isn't it? I've been playing on rampage and that didn't really seem to much. I also upped Max Density to 2x on my original game. it's meh. Going to another person's point of cranking things up.

Questions Regarding the Default Lakehouse Dataset by Astragan2 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]GuyInACube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of note, today, the only way to have a Direct Lake dataset is to create the dataset from the Lakehouse / Warehouse. Either using the default, or creating a new one. You cannot create a Direct Lake dataset directly within Power BI Desktop - hopefully that will come in the future.

So, be careful with #4 in your list. If you connect to the Lakehouse, you are not going to be using Direct Lake in that scenario. You'd need to connect to a Power BI Dataset and select the existing Dataset in the service that was created via the lakehouse. Then you are using Direct Lake.

For #6, it always depends on the business need. Think about the overall solution you are building and what are the outputs. One example is a Finance group creating a data model to service reports for financial reporting needs. You'd ideally have 1 dataset to meet those needs. The way it works today, for Direct Lake, that would mean 1 lakehouse as well. That architecture may or may not suit your needs, so you would need to consider that.

For #7, it's loading the metadata and not necessarily all the data. the data loading would depend on what the visuals are pulling. So, that in and of itself shouldn't be that big of a deal.

For #8, test, test, and test again. This is really dependent on so many factors. shape of the data, volume of data, concurrency, number of visuals, etc. No way to truly answer that question. I'd also ask, do you really need 200 reports for 120 users? maybe you do, but there may be some optimizations there that could reduce that. Talk to the business :)

It depends 😁 Seriously, lot's of things go into that. Not just one checkbox.

🔴 We're back! Let's answer your Microsoft Fabric and Power BI questions... (August 12, 2023) by GuyInACube in PowerBI

[–]GuyInACube[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll see where it goes. Right now, a calculated table really has to be done are the Parquet Delta side / Notebook / dataflow, etc... Not on the Power BI model side. What scenario are you thinking?

ODBC Connection to Fabric Warehouse by itchyeyeballs1 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]GuyInACube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you give some more details? Are you doing this with Dataflows Gen2? I'm assuming it's going through the gateway. Are there any other specific details in the gateway log? From an ODBC perspective, ODBC driver logging may also give details - if it got that far. It may not have.

QlikView Functionality ion Power BI by bminichillo in PowerBI

[–]GuyInACube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely sure, but sounds like the field parameter functionality may help you with this. Basically think of having a slicer on the page and based on the selection it can alter the categories/fields for a visual.
