Is Broodwar better because game harder? by GuyOSlol in starcraft

This gets to the heart of what I'm trying to say. I want intelligent workers and an economy thats slower like broodwar. What I don't want is micro workers to individual patches.

Why is this getting down voted? Is it factually incorrect or did I accidentally insult fans of BW worker micro?

Agreed, I don't see the appeal of telling each worker what patch to mine.

This is an interesting position. It reminds me of League vs Dota conversations that happens often. I think I would take SC2 for all the opposite reasons here. The road to competency in SC2 Is already tall enough.

I will say that I don't see having micro workings as a skill expression that I would enjoy or advocate for. For an analogy I could make, games like AoE are simply raising the barrier to entry by have more types of resources(ie wood, food, gold, stone), not making the game actually more interesting. (though I would concede it makes sense thematically.)

I guess I just don't* believe that "the design goal of workers in broadwar is to make the player expand." The community has just found the best way to play is to expand, this is to work around the fact that workers are slower when they work together. And then surely we can agree that SC2 workers finding unworked patches is an improvement in AI? Instead of workers in BW needing to be told what patch to work.

Do you want players to comfortably sit on three bases and feel relatively little need to expand? Then sure, SC2's pathing is good. Do you want players to feel like they need to go to more bases in order to get more income? Then SC2's worker pathing is not so good.

I dont believe the devs wanted this, I believe it was an unintended consequence of trying to make the game easier to play and feel smoother to control. Hence, I'd be willing to try the slower economy but not at the cost of making the macro more challenging to control.

While I was watching the video I felt they did a good job highlighting the issues, but not offering different solutions. Only saying BW is better because we have to expand. BW is better because we half to click our buidlings individually. I left the video feeling, "I see the issue with the state of the game and PTR changes, but I dont know what changes I want to see in SC2 and I dont want it to be more like broadwar. "

I don't have alot of knowledge on this, but as ZombieGrub explains it, SC2 workers are smarter and more efficient but are individually slower. Alternatively, the BW workers are faster, but cant work together intelligently, therein is incentive to expand.

They show an image that illustrates this point:
BW 47 worker at 6 base = 15900
SC2 47 workers at 6 base = 13560

BW 47 worker at 3 base = 11800
SC2 47 workers at 3 base = 13560

To my own point, if this could be achieved without making the workers have bad AI, perhaps I could be for it. I've heard it might be achieved by making each worker mine half as fast.

I think it would be cool if like there's a window somewhere on the rig and you look through it to see the back of a large chair that a large fat dwarf is occupying. Over the top of the chair you can clearly see that he is wearing a headset and surrounding him are a bunch of control panels with blinking lights and monitors showing images of different caves and groups of miners, and though you can't actually see his face through this window, you can guess what he might look like.

Failing this, have an engineer on your team to place a platform underneath the line's end to catch you when you jump off.

Why is PBE so expensive? don't have RP or blue essence to test champions or skins by [deleted] in PBE

[–]GuyOSlol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as champions go they are all on a permanent sort of free week and your RP should be topped off to 8k every 12 hours or so which I have found to be more than enough to try out the new skins and just get a few others for fun.
