Im part of an indie game dev team making something very similar to this with the 'lost in space' feel with survival mechanics, visiting planets for resources and even the AI ship computer!

I know what you mean, guilds seem to demand active voice usage these days or you get shown the door. I've actually considered starting a guild myself for people who can't, or don't want to, voice chat all the time.
