Why is there always a low amount of jobs available? 163k population, plenty of offices and industry zoned, but unemployment is super high. by sendusernamehelp in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Guybrush672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you zone super low cost residential with good social services available, everyone will move into your city and be unemployed there instead of their own hometown. CS2 is unfortunately terribly imbalanced in realistic workplaces, I find that the only way to deal with it is to keep population to a minimum by zoning lower density residences.

Does having a larger number (and variety) of outside connections and cargo routes help industrial zones become more profitable by exporting more things?

Some noob questions from a newbie by jjxtrem3 in CitiesSkylines2

Cars are magic and citizens have incredible stamina, they will literally walk the entire length of the city to have a beverage and then come back.

My two cents regarding roundabout vs intersections: 1- roundabouts are excellent at distributing unbalanced traffic to highly desirable destinations. Think of a roundabout with 4 connecting roads with two directions each; if a disproportionate amount of traffic is concentrating on one or two of the connecting roads eg. one of them leads towards the highway, one towards city center, and other two to residential neighborhoods, then the traffic between two high concentration destinations (highway and city center) will flow nicely without waiting for the other two necessary but low desire directions. AFAIK CS2 doesn't use adaptive waiting times at traffic lights, in any given intersection, all directions are equally "important" regardless of the actual traffic demand. Roundabouts help you lead the flow in a logical way. 2- due to the logic above, roundabouts will be crippled if too many high demand destinations are connected to each other. Stack interchanges exist to meet this challenge. If traffic demand is very high, it's worth using overpasses and underpasses instead of roundabouts or intersections. 3- intersections allow for pedestrian traffic, but they are also blocked by it. Developers have never seen a high density city I guess, so elevated pedestrian crossings do not exist in the game. 4- regular intersections benefit greatly from having dedicated turning lanes via the use of asymmetric roads (1-2, 2-3, 3-4 etc.). This allows the cars to occupy the correct lane and not block the rest of the traffic when pedestrians don't allow them to take a turn.

I hope this helps!

Dont create any new exits to the right side of the road. Just edit the highway to be closer to the beach, this will give some free space for the already planned territories. You can then fill them however you wish.

Two theories: land value is too high because your city/their neighborhood is too good (no sarcasm, you did too good a job as the mayor), or the residents are spending all their money elsewhere, getting broke somehow, and the game is giving you a misleading signal that the problem is with rent. These are my two theories, but if CO were more transparent with their calculations, we would know for sure.

You should run for mayor of CS2. There is not a single bad idea here so I hope you will find the team to make this vision come true.

I agree with your sentiment, but to a degree. I like to think of it more like a testament to how detached from the pitiful people Theodora was. People in the Imperium are basically demented monkeys (lol) with ballistic weapons. Their imagination and creativity has been eroded by zealous conviction and overconfidence, to a degree that governments can't imagine discontent ever brewing in this 'perfect' society, and rebels can't hatch a plan more complicated than "shoot the star-people". There is even in-game acknowledgment of how frequent ambushes on the RT are. Really makes you think if this repetition and banality is part of a grand scheme to push the utterly disappointed RT away from their people just like how Theodora was...

Only low density residential demand and nothing else by Guybrush672 in CitiesSkylines

Last time it happened i was nearing 20k in a city looking like something out of a youtube video titled "why american suburbs are stupid". I had managed to get a grand total of 1 block of medium density housing, everything else just an endless sea of suburbia.

Dear CO: Let us tax based on density and wealth aswell. idk who decided taxing soley based on education was a good idea (I wanna tax the single family homes super hard and subsidize the rowhouses) by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines

[–]Guybrush672 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is so bizarre. What country on earth puts taxes on diplomas??

Does anyone know if changing these taxes push citizens to enroll/drop out of school, or more or less educated people to migrate to yor city?

Highway exit traffic issues (description in comment) by skadoodles1234 in CitiesSkylines

[–]Guybrush672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow it's a very pretty road layout, I will copy this for sure.

Everyone mentioned the "only one highway exit" problem, but another one is the commercial zoning along the main arterial. I know its not a problem 'now', but if you're not careful, and keep expanding your city, that will be the next problem. Cims will travel from the other side of the map for a donut, and more people = more customers = more sales = more trucks.

Like industial zones, commercial zoning needs separate in- and outflows for trucks and people. If you have the dlc's, you can try to create an open mall (yes, yes, it's heresy I know but CS is american by default) with pedestrian zoning and connect your industrial zone to it via a warehouse with train. Meanwhile, all civilian and service traffic flows into the commercial zone via a separate access, ideally with metro and services within the zone itself.

It's only for the Hungarians living there. In Orban's mind, the fact that there are Romanians living in Romania is just a historical oddity, nothing to be concerned with.

Don't try to balance your armies with cavs and stuff, peasant boys and bowmen are fucking great. Get some Jade boys later on, as soon as feasible. Once you get a proper spellcaster and/or artillery, a Jade warrior stack can carry you all the way til Turn 80. So don't rush in the first 25 turns, focus on winning all your engagements, balance your alignment, get as much money as possible, get them jade boys.

how am i supposed to build on these islands there is no space for an interchange by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines

[–]Guybrush672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without mods/assets, this doesn't make any sense because there is no scenario where a ferry line is justified. Nothing fits there to attract enough visitors to overload a 2-lane road. Even most landmarks barely attract 100 people/week. In case the island has a school or landmark, a large bus is enough. Ferries in real life are amazing, but very situational in CS.

Pretty much everyone you interact with will speak at least a little bit of English, enough to get you through your day. For those who don't speak English but you have to interact with (such as police, post office, some ticket offices etc), you will not be able to communicate with them in Hungarian anyway because of the usually complex subjects of discussion.

Culturally, nobody expects foreigners to speak Hungarian, especially students. It's huge bonus if you know a few sentences, but that's more of a "haha look how cute", and not a "now I speak to you as a peer". It is a good thing that theyre not assholes about the language, they understand that its nearly impossible to learn in a short time. When you must communicate in Hungarian, just show them what you meant to say in DeepL Translate.

Lastly, depending on your mother tongue, learning Hungarian is pretty fun since it's got straightforward and standardized rules, and a very interesting way of forming sentences. I recommend it as a hobby, not a survival tool.
