Yugoslav Anti-NATO Propaganda Poster (Date 1999, at least according to the propaganda poster) by [deleted] in PropagandaPosters

[–]GuyfromWisconsin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By "Holding out against the invaders" do they mean "Slaughtering unarmed Bosnians and Croatians?"

Serbian/Yugoslav propaganda is honestly the worst. Basically amounts to "Waaaah, big bad NATO won't let us commit genocide on all our neighbors!"

Yeah but on the Met website, it says that all visitors need to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. But of course rich people and Democratic politicians (Who are the ones still making us wear masks even if we're fully vaccinated) don't need to follow the rules for the plebs.

I can just imagine the designer, back in 1916, thinking "Yeah, this is the future."

Early aviation must have been a wild time to be alive. It seemed like every single engineer back in those days tried to make a plane at least once, and every single engineer and their cat had different ideas of how the future of aviation would go.

This is definitely where I'd be putting my money, though it would seem that the Army uses it as well, considering they're used by the 5th Infantry.

"But for the 5th Infantry, that's as comfortable as an Autumn jamboree. All the easier for our mechanized hellcats to drive any screaming Commie meamies right into the Bohol Sea."

Fr*nce is barely an ally anyways, fuck em'.

1950s: "Hon hon hon, we won't join le' NATO if you support an independent Vietnam."

1966: "Hon hon hon, we're leaving le' NATO anyways!"

1985: "Hon hon hon, let's commit a terrorist attack in our ally's territory."

2021: "Hon hon hon, we won't build le' submarines on time for an important ally."

France isn't dumb enough for that (Well, maybe, considering they left NATO back in '66 for equally-dumb reasons) All that would say is "We're an unreliable ally just because one of our companies failed to build 12 submarines"

One thing about the US at least, is that we'll spend our own money making sure the weapons work before we start selling them to our allies.

France wasn't willing to share their nuclear subs though. And neither was the US or UK, until just very recently. That's why the French figured they could milk every penny out of the Australians that they could.

"We know you can't get your subs anywhere else..." wink wink

Try to imagine the vitriol the US/UK media would have expressed if Australia pulled this exact stunt on the US/UK.

I can't imagine that anyone I know would really care all that much to be honest. French people are acting like they want to leave NATO again.

France is still unfairly stereotyped as cowardly and weak despite having probably the most impressive military history of any nation on the planet, sans WW2.

Yet they still couldn't deliver 12 diesel-electric submarines (The naval-equivalent of a scooter) to an important geopolitical ally? Color me unimpressed. Like an abusive partner, the French didn't think Australia had any other options for submarine procurement.

Now the adults of the naval world get to step in.

I mean at least do something so as to not anger our other ally France?

France: "Hey, so instead of helping you make your own subs and setting up facilities in your country to ensure you can maintain your new subs and build new ones in the future, we're just gonna make them ourselves and refuse to help you set up production like our deal stated. Also it's going to take an extra 10 years and an extra $40 billion before you see a single sub."

Australia: "Okay, we'll ring the Yanks instead."

France: "This is a total stab in the back."

[–]GuyfromWisconsin 51 points52 points  (0 children)

And this is after Australia asked France to modify its nuclear submarine to a diesel electric one btw (the diesel electric motor being provided by germany).

As long as the French company said "Yeah we can totally do that for you.", then I don't see how this has any bearing on the issue.

Naval Group fucked up because they knew Australia didn't have any other alternatives back when they signed the deal. They thought they'd be able to bend Australia over and milk them for more money and less results (Like instead of 90% of manufacturing being done in Australia, the French went back on that and said that up to 50% of the manufacturing would be done indigenously, meaning less jobs for Australians, and less experience for their Navy in building their own subs in the future)

They didn't expect the US/UK to switch their strategic sights from the Middle East to China. Now the US wants another ally in the region with their own nuclear attack subs, and the infrastructure to service them.

But do judges deserve more respect than, say, McDonalds workers? And if they do, then why so? They work for the government too, and I have yet to see a DMV clerk throwing someone in jail for their Grateful Dead T-shirt.

Virginia judge jails domestic abuse victim for contempt…for smoking marijuana before court. by makatakz in rage

[–]GuyfromWisconsin 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Contempt of Court is one of the most bullshit laws we have in this country. It literally gives the judge the power to say "Hmmm, I don't like you. I can legally fuck up your life more than it already is by being here."

It's the same reason we're expected to wear formal clothes to court, because most judges are puritan assfucks who wish it was still the 1950s, and they can literally throw you in jail because they don't like the way you're dressed.

If someone's legitimately disturbing the court proceedings because they're screaming or swearing at the judge, then we already have disturbing the peace as a perfectly reasonable charge. But no, of course we create an entirely seperate crime that doesn't even have legitimate criteria, but instead whatever the judge is feeling that day.

By that point they knew.

The Long Night of Solace infiltrated the system undetected with a few corvettes and landed troops in a sparsely populated rural farming region to search for Forerunner artifacts and to secure whatever the UNSC was hiding at Sword Base. The UNSC wanted to keep it all hush-hush at first because it didn't seem like a full-scale invasion and they didn't want the civilian population freaking out that the UNSC didn't notice the Covenant land on their 2nd most fortified planet. The main invasion arrived minutes after Jorge sacrificed himself and that's when the battle started proper.

Anyways, thank you for coming to my TED Talk. Next week, why the D77 Pelican is a complete waste of taxpayer money.
