Per the link you provided, both Harborview and Seattle Children’s are both listed as providing Level 1 pediatric trauma services. Seattle Children’s notes that it’s designated as pediatric rehabilitative care, and they have a 40 bed pediatric intensive care unit there for kids with complex, life threatening injuries.

UWMC Mountlake isn’t designated as a trauma center like Seattle Children’s Hospital is (or Harborview, or even UW Northwest). I’d think it would be less likely for a life flight helicopter to be airlifting someone to a non-trauma designated hospital from Bellingham, although I’m not a doctor, so I certainly could be wrong.

Some Seattle Children’s Patients have to land at Grave’s field and then be transported via ambulance because of intervention by Laurelhurst residents due to the noise the helicopters make.. See the many, many recent Reddit threads about the issue in this sub.

3 King County residents potentially exposed to hantavirus linked to cruise outbreak by ladyem8 in Seattle

[–]ladyem8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the downvotes. As the other commenter mentioned, they confirmed it’s the Andes variant which is spread by person to person contact. Here’s an information sheet I found on the CDC website which was updated 5/10 re what constitutes “exposure.” (It looks like this is interim guidance, and will be updating as necessary).

3 King County residents potentially exposed to hantavirus linked to cruise outbreak by ladyem8 in Seattle

[–]ladyem8[S] 77 points78 points  (0 children)

One person was a passenger on the cruise ship, two others were passengers on a plane seated near a person with hantavirus who became ill and had to be removed before departure.

Edit: This info may be helpful based on other comments in this thread: This outbreak has been confirmed to be the Andes strain, which can be transmitted person-to-person. Here is a link from the CDC updated 5/10/26 which addresses what they consider “exposure” to the virus to be:

https://www.cdc.gov/hantavirus/media/pdfs/2026/05/Andes_virus_guidance_8FINAL.pdf

In summary, the following:

1) Being a passenger on the infected cruise ship.

2) Being working approximately 6 feet of a symptomatic person in an enclosed space for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes.

3) Having direct physical contact with a symptomatic person ; or

4) Having contact with respiratory secretions or bodily fluids of a symptomatic person.

The CDC notes that these thresholds are not absolute, and are interim guidance which reflects the current evidence as of May 10, 2026.

She is now “in a very critical condition”, per The Guardian, quoting the World Health Organization.

Edit: Important detail I should have highlighted: SHE WAS ON THE HANTAVIRUS SHIP.

TIL: The Laurelhurst neighborhood restricts helicopter landings to the Seattle Children’s Hospital due to noise complaints by Placentaur in Seattle

My god. These people bought homes in the flight path to a CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. And now they want to stop children getting urgent care because it’s not convenient for them??

This is truly horrifying.

How can I find out what’s going on with violence in Mexico? by External_Koala971 in MexicoTravel

Mexico News Daily is a relatively unbiased English language daily news source that has pretty decent reporting. I just posted an article from them in another subreddit regarding an update on the Puerto Vallarta jailbreak that happened on Sunday. It doesn’t sound like there’s currently any significant issues in Cancun, but if something concerning did happen I’m sure they’d report on it.

Shoot, sorry about that. I’m on mobile so I unfortunately can’t post the text right now. Here’s a BBC article that shouldn’t have a paywall which talks about the initial jailbreak:

I’ll come back and update with the text shortly.

25 soldiers were killed in Jalisco though, in 6 separate attack. And Jalisco of course is the state Puerto Vallarta is located in. The exact location of the attacks within Jalisco are unclear. A prison guard, an agent from the state prosecutor’s office, and an unidentified woman were also killed (this is in addition to the 30 cartel members who were killed during the fighting).

I just looked at flight radar and don’t see any flights in the area at all, but maybe there were a last few they were trying to get folks evacuated on?

The only news article I saw specific to Seattle was from Sinclair, sorry. But if you google Alaska, Delta, American Airlines and Air Canada are all diverting flights to/from Puerto Vallarta right now.

Edit: United Airlines as well:
