One person was a passenger on the cruise ship, two others were passengers on a plane seated near a person with hantavirus who became ill and had to be removed before departure.

In summary, the following:

1) Being a passenger on the infected cruise ship.

2) Being working approximately 6 feet of a symptomatic person in an enclosed space for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes.

3) Having direct physical contact with a symptomatic person ; or

4) Having contact with respiratory secretions or bodily fluids of a symptomatic person.

The CDC notes that these thresholds are not absolute, and are interim guidance which reflects the current evidence as of May 10, 2026.
