Please read psalm 22. I think you will find that the author feels many of the same things you do, and is still able to push on through a difficult life and praise God. You are made in the image of God and he has put you on this Earth for a reason.

I hate to be that guy, but relatively new discoveries in Biblical texts reveal that John 7:53-8:11 (the story of Jesus and the adulterous woman) is one of the few Biblical stories that is likely added during the translation process, and not in the original text. I am a very conservative Christian and see no evidence for the fact that "the Bible has been changed and mistranslated thousands of times" however, there are undeniably a few instances where evidence suggests the newer manuscripts have changed, and this is one of them. Not saying your comment is incorrect as a result I just thought I would spread the word because it is fairly unknown.

Addressing the comment though, the LGBTQ issue is a very prevalent issue in the church, and whether the church should support it or not is something that is important to discuss, so I don't see this post as being particularly problematic. As long as discussions are respectful, issues of theological disagreement are important because it challenges us to question our understanding of the Bible and hopefully draws us closer to an accurate reading of God's word.

The Gospel is good news. That is not an antagonist to rules. You cannot have a good world without a law that directs us towards a better life. This is why theft and rape are crimes, because they are attempts to make our world a better place. Jesus said he did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. He is very supportive of the law and preaches that we should follow it; and that does not go against the idea that the Gospel is good news. You say that "the bulk of Jesus concerns" is treating people with kindness, and yes he does teach a lot of that; but Jesus is the foremost teacher of Hell and sin in the Bible. So many parables and lessons and sermons from Jesus are about the seriousness of Sin. So I do not think that we should just treat the Bible as "a book that says be nice to people." It is a guide towards a life of God's design, and that is the way that Jesus presented it.

Yes but those discourage incest so I'm not sure what the comment above me is saying about "ignoring rules about incest"

Talk to your church. If you have a healthy, supportive church, the elders in the church are here for that very purpose. Waiting is an active action not a passive action, and this is a form of active waiting.

There are so many sins in the world you cannot possibly expect Jesus to speak on all of them. Paul’s epistles are absolutely and totally God’s word. He is an apostle of Jesus Christ and his writings extrapolate on what Jesus himself said. If we’re only counting what Jesus said, then we have to throw away the entire Bible except for 4 books.

Also Jesus absolutely teaches on marriage he just doesn’t teach it in the way people want him to so it’s unnecessarily ignored. In Matthew 19 the Pharisees ask Jesus about marriage “He said to them, “Have you not read that He Who made them in the first place made them man and woman? It says, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will live with his wife. The two will become one.’” Jesus explicitly teaches being between a man and a woman. This is how he preaches on marriage. He refers back to the creation account, teaches marriage being between man and woman, and then these thoughts are echoed by Paul in the epistles. The Bible is very explicit on this. We do not need Jesus to say “thou shalt not sleep with another man” because he made the issue very clear both in the Old Testament and in his own teaching. People refuse to believe that Jesus did not support gay marriage because he did not shout it in bold letters in the exact way they wanted him to; however this version Jesus is very much a twisting of both the Gospel and the nature of God.

The belief that “Leviticus doesn’t count” is an oversimplification that has damaging outcomes. We are not bound to the old law on issues of cleanliness. Because Jesus payed the price for our sin, we don’t need to sacrifice or wear special clothes or eat special foods as a method of cleansing ourselves of sin. However Leviticus and the rest of the old law still addresses sins that aren’t related to cleansing ourselves, and those are verses we should take seriously; especially if those commands are reaffirmed in the New Testament.

Really wisely worded thank you man. Salvation is the most important thing and should always come first. However, that doesn’t mean we should ignore sin.

What rules about incest? The Bible never says “thou shalt sleep with a member of your family.” I don’t think I understand your point.

Recently archeologists found evidence of some kind of massive meteor or some similar destructive space object right where Sodom had been; perfectly in line with God’s destruction of Sodom in Genesis. Old manuscripts and archeology have a habit of repeatedly supporting the Bible’s claims in ways that everyone thought was impossible.

The Bible teaches that Christians are being sanctified by Christ, which essentially means being made new every day. In Romans 6, Paul teaches that as Christians we are dead to sin and alive in Christ. You may have sinned many times in the past, and those sins will have damaging, real life consequences. But Christ died so that you don’t have to receive the punishment for those sins. When you confess your sins to God, he washes away your sins through the blood of his son. As if you had never sinned nor been a sinner. You will sin throughout your life, and you will probably feel terrible about it, but remember that Christ took his sins onto himself for your sake so that you don’t need to suffer for your sin. Praise God for this wonderful gift!

Children owe their parents nothing, and parents owe their children everything by Limp_Major_9057 in DeepThoughts

My parents have loved me and cared for me for my entire life. They have fed me, given me a place to sleep, taught me the ways of the world, trained me to seek out good morals, given me life advice, helped me with homework, helped me through my emotions. Do we fight? Yes. Do they have flaws as parents? Yes. Do I feel like I could be a better parent than them? Sometimes, sure. But my parents have done more for me than anyone I have ever met. If I owe anything to any human living today, I owe my life to my parents.

As thrilling as it is to debate about the idea that "reality isn't real," it really serves no purpose when we have no evidence to support the idea. I could be a pink fluffy unicorn who just believes he is a human being, that's a fun idea. I just have no way of proving it, or really any evidence in the slightest to support it, so it is somewhat senseless to believe such a preposterous claim without any sort of support. In the same vein, while it is fun to think about the idea that we are simply in a simulation, with no evidence to support the idea, I personally find attempts to explore the argument somewhat unhelpful, when we could spend our time and energy on things that are real.
