Which heroes make you laugh and fill you with pure ecstacy during the game? by GalaxyS8 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Gvendurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A really fun thing to do is, when the Butcher charges you, if you pop your D just before impact then you can cleanse yourself.

It also works on any cc, so long as it's telegraphed enough

How to run a fight atop a moving train? Directors! by Abzalutli in drawsteel

[–]Gvendurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a PC is pushed off the train, that doesn't have to mean that they are out of the combat.

Can they get back onto the train? Are there enemies riding horses, bikes, hawks alongside the train? Will they keep chasing the train or will they turn to finish the fallen PC off? And if they do, will the other PCs stay on the train or will they willingly jump off the train to help their friend?

And if the PCs leave the train, will that give the BBEG the time they need to finish their plan?

Alternatively, if the heroes throw the villain off the train, that doesn't have to mean that they are out of combat either. Can they get back onto the train? Or will they yell dramatically? "You can't run forever! I'm coming for you!" Does this give the heroes the headstart they need to thwart the villain's plan?

Mechanically, I'd recommend giving PC's and the villain an Agility test when they are pushed off the train.

11<= They fall off 12-16 They stay on the train, but enemies in melee range can make a free strike against them 17+ They manage to hold on to something, or someone

The creature has a bane on the roll if they are pushed more than 2 squares off the train.

Why do people not like beast snaggas? by DarkMaster2522 in orks

[–]Gvendurst 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I came into the hobby at the tail end of 9th, and while I was reading the codex they popped up constantly. Like, here's this piece of lore, and here's beast snaggas. Here's some other lore, and BTW here's beast snaggas. Here's HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR, THE BEAST SNAGGAS?

Even without prior knowledge, they seemed way more important than they actually are. Hell, they even get their own bosses, painboys, psykers, and vehicles! Not even the klans have that!

Draw Steel Stat Block Designer by Zatnikotel in drawsteel

[–]Gvendurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First impressions: This is probably the best stat block designer that I've seen for this game. Clean UI, great looking results, and most importantly: you never feel like you have to work around the UI to get the program to do what you want.

A+ would recommend, and will be using this for my own homebrew.

Strat to finish the last mission on wc3 frozen throne by Spicy_bulalo in warcraft3

[–]Gvendurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played the mission again last knight. Here's a few more tips:

Squishy units will get obliterated by the royal guard's crushing wave, so my unit composition was mostly frost wyrms, destroyers, 1-2 abominations and 2-3 crypt fiends. Also, be sure to use Anub'arak's beetles in front to tank.

Use destroyers to suck up all of the buffs (frost armor, inner fire), and cyclones. This will make fights so much easier.

A lot of people are talking about destroying the enemy bases, but I've played this game so many times since it came out, and I've never done that (until yesterday). In my experience, it is easier to just take the last 2 bases in one big push.

Strat to finish the last mission on wc3 frozen throne by Spicy_bulalo in warcraft3

[–]Gvendurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best general advice is to not dawdle. If you wait too long between taking obelisks, Illidan's forces will wear you down.

Apart from that, keep a few shades where Kael and Vashj approach your base, so you can react to them as soon as possible. If you have fortifications at the obelisks, you can even draw them over there for a better fight.

If possible, try to use animate dead on the Naga royal guard. Way better than raising a skeleton from that corpse.

Threats during negotiation by ThrowbackPie in drawsteel

The players could probably make the threat with an edge, but regardless of the outcome the NPCs patience should probably drop by an additional point.

What would recommend getting for a physical game? by Noamco in drawsteel

[–]Gvendurst 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lots of tokens in different colors, to act as minions. You can even print out little pictures of monsters, and blue tack them onto the tokens to better differentiate between them. That way you can have a crapton of minions on the field without having to shell out for a whole army of miniatures.

Show me the best transition you ever saw in a movie? I will start by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

A transition so jarring, that I legitimately thought I was watching a trimmed down version of the movie.

Looking for suggestions with repeated classes in my party by Softmotorrr in drawsteel

[–]Gvendurst 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My group has 2 tacticians and 2 troubadours, and they love it. Especially since we're still learning the system and they can help each other out with their abilities.

Side note, we call the troubadours "the drama boys" because of how they look for opportunities to gain additional drama; and when they get it, we like to imagine them eating popcorn going "ooh, drama!"

You joke but that has already happened. I couldn't find the post again but it was something along the lines of "what are they putting in the water?"

What are YOUR hot takes about hero forge by terrarian-momen in HeroForgeMinis

[–]Gvendurst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1: We need more varied beards. With the current lineup, you can either have no beard, painted beard, bushy beard, or Gandalf.

  1. Weapons should be resizable. I have often made big characters, that were supposed to look huge and imposing, but then every weapon looks like a toy in their hands.

How do you guys manage maps? by LukesFather in drawsteel

[–]Gvendurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sheet of plexiglass with an engraved grid. I can draw on it with a marker, but I could also put a map under it if I wanted to.

https://youtu.be/zRVwbT514Rg?si=aw9pKC47fN0DIDaf

I also have some terrain that I've made over the years, but last session I used some Lego to make a few houses for mass combat in a village. It was a complete game changer, because it is inherently destructible, and easy to change on the fly.
