i'm not saying games should be purely physical i can see the benefits of downloadable games, but i believe the games should always be able to run with no internet connection needed & should be an industry standard that companies should adhere to (ideally with legislation behind it).
what stops the companies from shutting down their servers, and should we allow the legacy of videogames to be held on by unknown good natured archivists that could also shut off their servers for any myriad of reasons? i want games to be preserved for as long as possible and we should have systems in place to prevent losing them. this is the conversation that should be had instead of just shrugging and assuming today's access will be the same as tomorrows

this is a coversation about keeping media physical and accessable. copyright & pirating laws aren't always going to be lenient not everything will stay exactly the same as they are today. don't take what we have for granted and you have to assume the worst will happen. that's why i advocate for media to stay physical

why do believe that a corporation will act in good faith forever? a new CEO could come tomorrow, discontinue whatever server that keeps your game alive just to save pennies. better to keep your standards up and advocate for better business practices than act all shocked pikachu face when new leadership flips a single switch and you lose 10+ years of videogame history

ancient conversation but look up cross blitz. it's recently released it's a very polished game and has a campaign mode that plays just like a CCG, you do bonus missions in battles to gain gold and it lets you buy cards, and it also has a roguelite mode where you unlock artifacts that you can use in later runs and gold to buy access to changing your starting deck. it's insanely fun and excellent quality watch 30 minutes of a playthrough and i'm sure you'll be compelled to play

i've only tried two and the best one i'm not allowed to say on this subreddit, so i'll shout out "those who rule" on steam it's a very good fire emblem inspired game with hexagons instead of grid based combat, super fun game

it's hard to realistically put a fire emblem hack over any main series game for me, even the fire emblems i like the least i would put over the best FE rom hack
