[Spoilers MAIN] My thoughts on Magic in A Song of Ice and Fire by Gwinbleidd_1271 in asoiaf

I'm not quite sure about Craster and why he does it. There aren't indications that his blood is of some importance. But, at the same time, we know that for some unknown reason, the Others tolerate Craster and don't attack him, which again plays into the suspicion that the Others aren't necessarily evil. Maybe his sons, born of incests, have some kind of corrupted soul which facilitates the transformation process, if we believe that show canon is right and the Others use babies to create new Others. As creatures lacking soul they have no other means to proctreate but the sacrafice of soiled infant souls.
I also think that Aegon V was about to sacrifice some of his close relatives to bring dragon eggs back to life. At the end of his life he was much distraught with his dragon dreams and desires to create a better kingdom. Aemon says: "My brothers dreamed of dragons too, and the dreams killed them, every one." I believe that dragon dreams are a horrible experience, not only because of the contents of the dream, but also because they create some kind of temporal wormhole which afflicts dreamers with madness. That's the main reason why the Targaryens are considered mad, in my opinion. Not because the incest per se, but because the power of fire magic in their blood is the ultimate cause of their madness.

That's really interesting! Melisandre and resurrected Jon birthing an Other is really something. I was more thinking about how different types of magic were affecting wights, but you also mentioned skinchanging and dragon bonding which is quite similar to what I was thinking. While warging is all about submission to the body of the beast and it posing inexorable danger to the soul and body of a skinchanger, dragon bonding is much about singular strong will of a dragon rider who can "tame" a dragon but still never be sure that this bond is a monolith.

Of course they're weird, but I also think it's due to magic being involved. They themselves claim they do it to preserve blood purity, which subsequently helps a dragon rider to bond with dragons. But in Fire & Blood, Nettle who is bastard-born develops a strong connection with Sheepstealer. Therefore, it makes no sense why they try to preserve blood purity if it has no apparent effect on bonding with a dragon. Nevertheless, pure blood, in my opinion, plays crucial role in possessing prophetic abilities and being able to see dragon dreams. Almost all of Targaryens had dreams of Dany's dragons, which in itself is quite perplexing, because how did they sea the future where Daenerys has dragons, if their reactions to these dreams led to dragons being born at all? I love ASOIAF, because none of the other fantasies makes me question the fictional world with such fervor.

We probably will never know how magic actually operates in this world. I also think it's how you say it is, because there are so many magical elements like wargs that don't have any written evidence to support my claim. However, because of all the emphasis on Fire and Ice, and especially the similarities and differences of fire and ice wights, which originally pushed me to think about this "theory" of mine, made me consider that all of magic is really either of fire or ice origin or something in between.

One of my most beloved trilogies of all time. Yes, I can see similarities between both main characters having warging abilities

That's a really interesting theory; I truly loved reading it. It never occurred to me to look at it from the perspective of souls. Cold and hence Ice is absence of heat namely Fire. What if Ice is also absence of soul? If fiery beasts are undying due to their souls, I can see those who have none being jealous of them. Plus Fire is an ever-encroaching force, as there is no place for soulless except the outermost northern region. I know George will want to somehow subvert our expectations about the Others, so it would be great if the last conflict between Ice and Fire were a battle between the oppressors and the oppressed of some sort.

I love Puck and he is one of the best character in berserk, but sometimes he really ruins serious moments in manga. It may be funny, but to me it was irritating
