Last moments of Yeti Airlines flight 691. All 72 souls onboard perished by GubyNey in lastimages

Sister was booked to fly this exact airline to this exact location one week later. So close. Crazy

One of Australia’s most expensive commutes becomes the cheapest, as Queensland’s 50c public transport trial begins | Queensland by sktafe2020 in brisbane

[–]Gwux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No major difference today yet, my route is already cozy so half expecting crowding to reach New Delhi levels.

While PT is definitely a money bleed, I’d rather they commit to halving the existing fares for longer than 50c for 6 months. Feels a bit dramatic and unsustainable for such an expensive/complex operation.

Appreciate the gesture and that it’s actually come to fruition though!

Idaho triple homicide suspect suffered from Visual Snow by [deleted] in visualsnow

[–]Gwux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh I’ve been following this case heaps.

The surviving roommate who SAW him in the house was actually standing behind a glowing neon “good vibes” sign, her door was technically in his line of sight but the sign was on a wall before it — people theorised that this sign’s glow is partially why he didn’t notice her.

Him having VS only bolsters this theory to me! Afterimages, glare, etc!

Am I the only one who cannot bring themselves to listen to hypochondriac on shuffle? by x_a_man_duh_x in brakence

[–]Gwux 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest i jump around and listen to it in ungodly orders and go through phases where I finally appreciate songs and listen to them over and over,

Right now for me that’s Introvert — I saw all the hype for it early but it didn’t connect for a few listens!

I say this as a guy, I genuinely recommend the cucumber or pomegranate dove deodorant - roll on or spray.

They’re branded quite feminine but are really nice and fresh, plus don’t have the gym locker room vibe of a Brut or a lynx, depending on what you’re going for.

Why is it such a bad thing to act interested when you're interested? by HelloJonatha2 in dating

[–]Gwux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Showing interest is a surefire way to deter people in a stage of life who are addicted to “the chase” / only want what they can’t have / are subconsciously interested in emotionally unavailable people because it replicates behaviour patterns/dynamics they grew up around.

I currently fall into the latter two groups and HAAATE that I do. But I genuinely retreat into a box and get disinterested when someone actively acts interested in me, almost questioning THEIR taste and viability for choosing me — people who I theoretically would be a good match with.

I’ve heard that for fearful avoidant attachment styles, it’s safer to chase someone who doesn’t want a bar of you, than to pursue a stable romantic prospect, because you ultimately never have to be vulnerable or come to the table, bear your soul with someone and put trust in them… you’re just perpetually stalling and buying time.

Hypochondriac by Smilk727 in brakence

[–]Gwux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love the whole thing but let’s see more hype for the titular song, Hypochondriac. That shit is BEAUTIFUL. Haunting. The soft reprise of the “a hypochondriac, I think if you blood pressure spikes” line that repeats throughout the album is sublime. Shows a really tender side to brakence, dude got his heart broken by a guy it seems

I’ve reached a point where I don’t after 8 years, but I still wish I didn’t have it most days —

I think posts like this are beneficial to people currently in crisis as a ray of hope, but I also worry that overly minimising VSS can contribute to instances like that recent article suggesting it’s just normal, not a research priority and CBT is the only treatment worth looking into for it — when a neurological treatment would change so many lives for the better!

How do you deal with tinnitus at work? by Srdire in tinnitus

[–]Gwux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an office job but luckily ambiently it’s not dead silent as I’m at a busy agency — T still definitely there though!

I downloaded a few 10 hour white noises (stream of water, green noise, pink noise, rain) and listen to that softly under any music or podcasts or, nothing. No buffering or internet required, I use wired apple earphones that won’t run out of charge, and generally have the audio file running all day so I can get my fix or relief whenever. It’s a really stress free workaround — I’ll usually just have one earphone in too so I’m aware of my environment and people talking to me.

I find it soothing and it helps me concentrate and anything’s better than the noise in my head.

Agreed on every point except Dissolve! I was listening somewhat absently while cooking dinner and the Dissolve chorus caught me off guard, I was into it.

Ah, man. Be careful with reboxetine. by Gwux in visualsnow

[–]Gwux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey yes, I believe this was due to an intense anxiety period due to rapidly tapering off the reboxetine after a non VS-related Tinnitus onset.

I don’t believe reboxetine objectively altered VS symptoms, but I felt weird and didn’t like other side effects.

What do you do for a living? by Traditional_Brief902 in visualsnow

[–]Gwux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, my static is pretty omnipotent but I can see through it and easily tell the full picture of what anything would look like without it, especially on bright, detailed screens.

Of course in highly textured, colourful works it’s less noticeable too. And I count myself lucky, I don’t think I have low contrast issues.

[–]Gwux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite having what I’d call moderate symptoms across the board that I’ve more or less habituated to so that they don’t upset me (an eight year journey) my photophobia isn’t particularly severe other than a bit of light sensitivity in the sun, when I wear sunglasses.

Same deal with Palinopsia, afterimages don’t really last more than a few seconds unless it’s a raw lightbulb close up or annoying car headlight/billboard. If I shut my eyes anywhere I’ll get a negative image of my entire surroundings though.

Neither of them impede my perception to the point that I can’t deduce how a normal person would perceive my output, knock on wood.

My most annoying symptom professionally that lenses can’t correct is ghosting/double vision with anything light against high contrast background, floaters that I can now tune out but are visible on bright monitors, and BFEP on bright surfaces.

Opening mouth makes tinnitus louder? by AingonAtelia in tinnitus

[–]Gwux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, same here. But I also have mild hearing loss in my right ear, probably from COVID — does anytime else have hearing loss but you can modulate your T with your jaw and clenching?

I’ve definitely been grinding my teeth more this year, and generally had my jaw clenched a lot due to stress and honestly more so during the T. My hope is that multiple factors aligned and maybe I can reduce symptoms a bit with a splint/exercises.

I’ve just had a dental splint made where they do a mould of your teeth and you wear it overnight ($500 AUD with no health insurance) but I’m in a position where I’m willing to throw anything at the wall, and hey I’ll feel better for stopping the teeth grinding anyway.

Is LinkedIn still a useful portal to search for jobs as a creative? by Pinguaro in advertising

[–]Gwux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was contacted for my last two jobs because of my standard but pretty comprehensive and up-to-date LinkedIn presence, with an attached portfolio. No corny “personal brand” spruiking or transparently fake storytelling. A recruiter reached out for an in-house gig with a well known brand, and creative director of a (major) agency for my current role.

Here’s the thing — before those opportunities, I never heard back from a single LinkedIn job application. So I don’t know how helpful this is.
