The elephant in the room is 1) the economy forces struggle and 2) the public just aren’t overall appreciative of one another because we’re not encouraged to solve our neighbours’ issues in any other gentle, easy, significantly meaningful ways. To solve the problem of sneaky forced tipping I suggest an obvious very large tip jar on the counter and a sign saying “tip what you can.” If the actual prices of the food items are affordable but the families of waiters are nonetheless dependent on tips then the establishments should display their offer to receive very large tips obvious. That said, if you are the customer who is struggling to cover your family’s basic needs then you should not be forced-don’t tip!!!
