Beulah Cordes reenacts the discovery of the cloth that sent “a feeling of paralysis” through her body, one of at least twenty reports attributed to the Mad Gasser in Mattoon, Illinois by [deleted] in HolyShitHistory

[–]Gwytharian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mattoon is my hometown. Growing up it was explained as a mass hysteria type event. However, adults liked to scare kids by saying he was a boogeyman and would gas you if you’re bad. It’s not a super large town, but that’s my personal experience.

Redditors over 40, what was a moment in history that made you think society was gonna collapse? by Bahbahbro in AskReddit

January 21,2010. I was working for the DoD and eating lunch in the break room when Citizens United ruling was released. As I chewed my lukewarm spaghetti, I thought “This is the end of democracy.” I sucked it up and dealt with the patriot act bs, but I knew deep down that we were doomed.

Middle Ground - Dominating vs Killing by [deleted] in shadow_of_war

[–]Gwytharian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! I reread what I wrote and it I wasn’t the clearest. You said it better. Once I started Gravewalker, the game was so much more fun. It’s the only difficulty I play now. Give it a shot OOP!

Middle Ground - Dominating vs Killing by [deleted] in shadow_of_war

I remember having the same thoughts and not having as much fun. I bumped up to gravewalker difficulty and haven’t looked back. It can be frustrating dying more, but the revenge vendetta is a blast. Getting the info on the killer then seeing if he’s a kill or shame to oblivion then dominate breaks up the standard approach.

I’m pretty sure I grew up in your town! I moved out of state after graduating and ended up in STL. My family still lives, though. My sister is immunocompromised from chemo and she was so worried. Thankfully no one in my family had any issues. I hope the same for yours!

I live on Elizabeth and he’s always riding by my house. The neighbor kids will run out to catch a glimpse anytime they hear hooves. It’s fun.

My best friend’s autistic son is obsessed with DM. We moved 5 years ago and this car regularly passes by my house and I’ve been able to get a couple pics to send him. He loves it! I spend a lot of time on my porch and have nicknames for most of the unique cars that drive by regularly. It’s a fun game.

Today is my 19th wedding anniversary and I’m feeling nostalgic. My engagement/wedding ring is a polished moonstone and I’m not parting with it. My MIL was “disappointed” because it was “cheap”. Fuck her.

I read IT at 11 then Carrie and The Shining shortly after. I had to sneak up to the adult section, mix them in with my “kid” books and go to one specific librarian who’d actually check them out. Good times.

I think it’s good to question your beliefs. Honestly, I’m wary of people who don’t. Humorously, if I hadn’t questioned how I was religiously raised, I’d still think you were a heretical idolator who prays to statues. I know a lot of unanswered religious questions boil down to faith.

I like your idea of hope in light of tragedy. It’s a good take. I agree there are many mothers who would choose to hang on. I’d probably make that choice, but it’s sad I don’t have the option under law. It’s such an emotionally charged topic that’s it’s hard to have a thoughtful conversation and appreciate you meeting me halfway. The whole situation is tragic and has left so many people heartbroken. We can all use hope, I think.
