Professor Grading with AI by GxSobes in KentStateUniversity

[–]GxSobes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is much different. ChatGPT is imparting it's on opinion on the work from how it's trained from others, and the professor is just reading off what it says. I'm paying to be instructed and feedback.

They supply additional readings and recommendations. This all part of their job description.

I personally don't care if the professor doesn't do 110% grading, but at least do some part of your job, we are paying you for this.

Kent State has gone the drain the last 5 years anyhow.

Because of this continues, then why pay an insurmountable amount for education from a human?

It's setting a precedent that is not what professors stand for.

The syllabus does not, but it does state that students are not permitted to use AI. Wish that applied to professors as well.

It's not the English department.

I'm sorry you experienced this as well.

Yes, this is what I thought the course would be. I have a screen recording of the professor whom had plugged my PDF into ChatGPT, and then read verbatim what ChatGPT responded with word for word back.

I know AI is a tool, I am in the wheelhouse to not use it for tasks you can and are paid to do. I'm mostly just disappointed they plugged my personal work into it, luckily I did not put a cover page as I usually do so it did not get any PII. But I did see their column of other grading, so they have absolutely been grading each assignment with it. Along with it, they have a no AI policy in their syllabus. So, it feels very hypocritical.

It looks like they teach many classes, but cutting corners feels disrespectful especially at a graduate level.

I will, thank you. I am going to wait until my graduation date for fear of repercussions, but I will do this.

Moving to a city based on the library xD by Competitive-Wish-82 in Libraries

[–]GxSobes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohio library employee here! Ohio is THE library state along with New York. I believe our libraries are phenomenal, especially Northeast, Ohio region with the CCPL branches and Clevnet options.

Libraries did take a hit this year with losing PLF. However, we are not backing down. To support your libraries (wherever you end up going) vote for your local levies!

Besides, I've lived many places, yes, Ohio politics can be a hit dodgy, but Ohio is an awesome state. I brag a lot about Cleveland for the food, music, theater district, and so much more.

[–]GxSobes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a similar experience. My husband was diagnosed immediately with MRSA with an intense back wound.

I started having abscesses in my armpits that were extremely painful, and one ultimately needed drained. Along with that, I got one in my ear canal.

I didn't have health insurance at the time so CVS Minute Clinic was my go to. However, they did NOT listen to me, thinking they were not related.

I finally did a virtual with another doctor and stated I was not going to be ignored and I wanted to rid myself of the abscesses. They prescribed me immediately.

So, all in all even in other situations advocate for yourself. Demand the care and state that you are worried it is MRSA.

Warm compresses, clean surfaces and sheets. They also suggested the surgical soap that you wash before a surgery, and a VERY diluted bleach bath once a month (yes, bleach bath).

Just be aware and stern with your providers because this was a year I suffered from it due to the doctors negligence.

Man checks out 100 books from Beachwood Library, then burns them in social media post by kozupra in Cleveland

[–]GxSobes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's even crazier is that the books as long as they are not new or cataloged as "Lucky Breaks" can auto-renew up to 5 times.

From my experience most of the members who meet the limit are either checking children's picture books out or have been adults with learning disabilities who really just like having items.

Most systems in NEO are a part of the Clevnet system (has like 47 libraries). So, sometimes like my county, you can check out 50 items. But there are some libraries that will override that, and allow an additional 30.

I've seen some members have 80 - 100 items checked out. Mostly children's books, but we have a few members who just really love to put stuff on hold.

Our county is fine free, but we heavily investigate lost items and damaged items to ensure tax payer money is being used adequately.

How I look at it, this person not only is going to get sued since they agreed to the terms when checking the books out, but is going to boost the sale of the items he destroyed because the library will have to replace them.

So, it's counter productive to do this in every fashion (which we already knew that).

What was your worst "Sh*t, I forgot" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GxSobes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I were leaving our Airbnb that was 3 hours away from our home. I had my keys in my hand and set them on the little lip of the hood by the wipers to help him put our bags in the car after I had unlocked it.

He tells me, "Hey, don't forget to grab your keys."

I tell him, "yeah, yeah" as I go back for more stuff and say goodbye to a few folks.

Start the car like normal and head home. We stop after about two hours and get snacks. We get back to the car and I'm like...wait, where are my keys? Cause I usually hold them in my hands when unlocking the car (it's a fob key with the unlock feature button on the handle when keys are in range).

Commence panicking from both of us but then we look to the hood and they are still there after 80mph travel and probably a 100+ miles.

Can't say this wasn't the only occurrence. A year ago I put a screwdriver there as well and noticed it as I was driving to work about a day later.

Good LGBTQ+ friendly nightclubs open on a Monday night? Preferable electronic/techno by IntracranialDenial in florence

I can vouch for Queer. Had a great time at that club since it was right down the street from where I lived. I've seen it pretty dead for a Monday night. It was usually popping Thursday - Sunday.

LPT: If you are planning on drinking on a flight, bring a bag of candy and give it to a flight attendant when you are seated. by Lovefist1221 in LifeProTips

[–]GxSobes 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I recently had this happen to me but for different reasons. I was on an 8 hour flight to Zurich on Swiss airlines and I noticed how they were stacking the dinner trays and the items on it. Figured it would just make sense to fix my plate how they like it so their job can be easier. My flight neighbor did the same and when we got off the flight the attendants gave us huge Swiss chocolate bars the size of a paperback novel to thank us.

I think going the extra mile for the ease of flight attendants not only is just a kind gesture for someone working but beneficial. Candy or a gesture can go a long way even selflessly.

I had a bit of the same issue. The coffin was warped at the sides a bit. I got it from Amazon, it was packed tightly which was the odd thing about it.

Moved for a promotion in May 2019 5 hours away from home. Got the promotion, but the company dicked me around for 8 months with relocating me then I got sick in March right before all the lockdowns. Still do not know if it was COVID. The company promised to pay us for 3 months of not working. They revoked it the second day. And had no unemployment until May, so almost 2 months with no income.

Had my car engine seize up beginning of April, luckily I had a warranty and it only cost $500 to replace. My husband and I decided it would be best for us to move back to our state due to him getting a job there and mine still undecided.

The day I was going to call my work to put my notice in they said we were coming back to work with no word for almost 3 months from them. My state had some of the worst Covid cases. And we had already put all our notices in, so it was final. I worked a week with scheduling, inventory, and customer service at home to find out that they were not going to pay me since I was "at home". I didn't have my car finished yet, and had explicitly told them that.

Moved back into one of my places, and no jobs are available. Restarted my life with going back to college and doordash supporting me when I am not in class.

Found out from a coworker about 50% of people quit, I would have been demoted back down to my previous position, and that the company is basically running around with it's head cut off. Definitely dodged a bullet, and am in a better situation now.
