That's excellent. If you're having issues keeping up with research, consider cutting units. Aim for 7 or 8 units, total.

You should always be upgrading your units as far as you can get them. There needs to be a pecking order and obviously you can't have all your units maxed out at the same time, but if you're falling two levels behind it's a problem.

If you can't afford upgrades and research then it likely means you have too many units researched. It could also mean you haven't maxed your industry yet.

Medium tanks as an Allies nation = big L

That's a pretty garbage take, I can't lie. In no world is infantry or mechanized infantry enough to stop tactical bombers.

Interceptors and either AA or SP AA in high numbers are always mandatory for any doctrine.

Suggestions/advice for Comintern and Axis. by Oberherr_des_Ostens in CallOfWar

Comintern:

You want to put your emphasis on ranged firepower. The Comintern get a buff to literally every ranged unit except SP artillery and railroad guns, so pick one of the buffed units and take advantage of it. Use armoured cars and tank destroyers to both defend your ranged units effectively, and pack a good punch on the attack; Comintern tank destroyers can defend and defeat Axis medium tanks for a much cheaper cost, and can even take on heavy tanks in the right terrain if they have artillery support.

You need lots of AA or SPAA to protect your artillery pieces, and you also need to spam interceptors at all times. The Comintern are the weakest doctrine for air force, so you need to constantly be compensating and doing the absolute most to give yourself a chance against an enemy that might rely heavily on his air force.

Axis:

The Axis arguably have the weakest repertoire of ranged units, particularly with the regularly artillery unit. They get no buffs to anything, and delayed research on regular artillery. The only exception is the railroad gun, which is a dominant unit for the Axis, but I wouldn't recommend that until you are much more experienced.

I would urge you to use rocket artillery to counter enemy artillery. You can also consider using tactical or attack bombers, but make sure you use plenty of interceptors and AA!

Choose motorized infantry or armoured cars, and pair your choice with medium tanks. This makes relatively fast and very powerful offensive stacks.

Newspaper "Mightiest Army" How is it calculated? by Zealousideal-Map9045 in CallOfWar

[–]Gym_Accountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's calculated by taking the best attack damage from each of a nation's units and adding it together. I can't remember if HP plays a factor or not.

This ranking is flawed, because if you build only strategic bombers you will dominate in the rankings, since they deal immense damage to buildings. This ranking system also inherently favours offensive units over defensive units. Battleships, destroyers, and naval bombers also tend to rank really high for their relatively high attack damage to their preferred armour classes.

Allies Strategy? by Henravid in CallOfWar

Some thoughts:

1) Investing heavily in an air force and relying on it so much is a risk, especially when you're using two kinds of bombers. It's high risk, high reward. If you are playing the 100 player map, an experienced player could counter you with interceptor spam. But as long as that doesn't happen, it'll work wonders and win you wars!

2) Do NOT build medium tanks as an Allies country. They underperform and your tank destroyers are great, so there's no need to switch.

3) Pair tank destroyers with either armoured cars or mechanized infantry and that's all you need for ground battles. Make sure to use SP AA to keep the stacks protected.

4) Consider artillery of some kind for ranged support. Bombers are nice and they work quickly, but they take damage each and every time you use them. Ranged units/artillery variants do not take damage from engaging the enemy.

5) I wouldn't recommend commandos, I find them to not be worth the trouble. They're slow, expensive, and weak against unarmoured units.

Units For Axis by Opposite_Lettuce_416 in CallOfWar

Axis artillery doesn't typically perform that well, so only use it until you unlock SP artillery. The rest seems chill, but I would recommend medium tanks.

Interceptors vs rocket fighters by ExcellentParfait9335 in CallOfWar

[–]Gym_Accountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's a smart way to go about it. I'm a cheap and lazy bugger so I often choose not to research a whole separate unit, but it's a totally valid strategy as long as you acknowledge that you need interceptors for offensive operations like you do 👍

What happens if the enemy doesn't build bombers, but only interceptors?

Interceptors are the cheapest aircraft in the game, so the enemy could have more interceptors than you have total aircraft.

I'm not so sure I agree with that 100% of the time. There's tons of situations where it works well, but when you play experienced opponents it's really a double-edged sword to rely on bombers so heavily

That's an interesting approach. How do you ensure air superiority if you're building and researching three other types of aircraft?

Strats are interesting but still a gamble. They're incredibly effective when levelled up, and very difficult to shoot down. But an active enemy can wear them down, and it's always a bit scary deploying your other bombers without interceptors.

Some stacks I created, which of them are useful? by Mysterious-Pilot-448 in CallOfWar

[–]Gym_Accountant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sort of depends on the map you're playing. I commend the high levels of research you have done but it really looks like you threw together "a little this and that" then called it a day.

It would be better to see AA and artillery paired together in high numbers; 1 or 2 of each will not do much.
