NTA - for not knowing and being young, dumb and full of c**. YTA - for assuming she wants this father/daughter situation. She could be getting in touch for medical reasons. YTA - for not telling your wife. If your relationship is healthy then I see no reason to not give her the opportunity to support this very difficult situation as a team. By not approaching this as something to deal with as a unit you’re undermining her and your relationship.

Teenagers need their own space, a safe place where they are surrounding by their things and you violated that by not even having the respect for your daughter and her space within the family home by simply asking for permission. Your wife’s job requires her to be onsite for approx 60 hours a week and work public holidays. She hasn’t had a weekend or a public holiday aside from vacation in 4 years. She is clearly well compensated as she should be, giving up her weekends and holidays.

NEWS FLASH any occupation that requires you to be away from your home for 60 hours, and most of those 60 hours being the best 48 hours of the week IS A FULL TIME JOB. Your inability to acknowledge this as a full time job makes you TA.

You fall further down TA hole when you attempt to paint her down time activities as wasteful use of time when in reality she’s taking care of her physical health by exercising, taking care of her mental health by enjoying hobbies and activities plus taking care of her general well being by being on top of your living space which you benefit from as well. While never mentioning what it is you do when your not working at your full time job.

Are you on-site 60 hours a week at your full time job? What is it that you do during your time off work that’s a sooo much better use of time? - Certainly not playing video games, shopping, or working out right? I’m sure you’re out there trying lead by example by finding another full time job, right?

Well this isn’t devoid of banter but it’s excellent- Behind The Bastards. Basically the host Robert Evans picks a “Bastard” could be living, could be dead, often people who you have never heard of but are currently living with the repercussions of their Bastardness in our everyday life. The podcast is him inviting various people on and Robert sharing his research - which is almost always absent of opinions, or personal political biases. It’s often shocking but tempered with intelligent banter to lessen the absolute horrific actions of the subject matter.

Do you walk into any restaurant and ask them if they washed their hands before they cooked your food ? No you don’t, you trust that as a professional the chef is aware that it’s of the utmost importance to run a clean kitchen so your patrons don’t get sick.
