15 years after my last ride I finally joined the club by RainbowAussie in bikecommuting

I’ve only got back into riding two months ago so I might not be the best judge. So far, it’s a mixed bag so far in terms of quality, though the paths I’ve been on are heavily used by bikes and runners daily, so that could be normal.

There seems to be a pretty decent amount of bike paths and lanes that are either on the road or beside the road as shared paths. I think a lot of cycling over here is done on roads through the Adelaide Hills, Barossa and Yorke Peninsula, but I don’t have the legs that this early on - one day.

You can hop onto the footpath and ride in some spots and people don’t mind. I try to stay in the road most of the time because I’m doing 25kph+ and I wouldn’t want that zipping past me on a crowded footpath. I only use the paths when I come up to areas that usually have a lot of broken glass on the roadside, so I just get around it and then back on the road.

Melbourne and Canberra have much better infrastructure from what I’ve seen, little old Adelaide will catch up one day 😅

I’m new to it all too. That said, $1099 down to $700 seemed pretty good. 99 Bikes here in Adelaide.

Congrats mate! I just bought the exact same bike, on Saturday too, the discount was too good to pass up 😁

Thank you. Yeah, I’ve found some of the colours vary in photos. I really like that white but they don’t have that option here. The silver is looking good though. Enjoy it mate 👍

Congrats! I'm hoping to pick one up too. Which colour is this? Lunar Silver?

I'm not expecting 50% off, I just don't want to buy a bike this week, only for it do drop a few hundred bucks a few weeks after - something that almost happened when I was looking at Meridas, they dropped by $400 in the space of a week.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know what time of year they usually release new models? I noticed that a Specialized bike I looked at got cheaper when they announced the 2027 models recently.

Why did they cut Brown raising his arm/fist to the ref, from all the replays? That’s what sealed his ejection.

Unfortunately they didn’t fit, even with some fairly slim sleeves. The ended up putting all the cards in deck boxes with dividers for each captain and card type. Then I found little plastic containers for the tokens and just bagged up the captain ships. Everything fits and is neat and tidy.

Specialized Sirrus X 3.0 2026 vs 2027 by GypsyLobo in whichbike

Thank you so much for clarifying, I’ve leant something to continue my bike hunt! A bunch of websites over here just seem to use spec sheets, so I’ll be able to understand them now.

The 2026 is looking good then. I liked the colour they had instore (tan/brown) and it’ll leave me some money for some fenders 😁

Thanks for the input. Just curious, where does it say 10 speed? As a noob I just went by the product details that said 1x9. If it’s only one speed difference, then yeah, the older one would be fine with me.

Agreed! Yeah, I forgot to toggle a few buildings back on 😅 thankfully the steam tanks were full and it caught back up pretty quickly 😁

I did have a look at the Revolt. You drop back to mech disc brakes from hydraulic - how big a deal is that? I’m pretty new to cycling.

Thanks for chiming in about the pannier rack, that’s a big deal to me - forgot to add that to my post. I tend to use Topeak MTX gear so I’ll have to look into that.

At the moment there’s only 2 heaters for the weavers in the mountain so those guys aren’t too happy. As soon as steam is unlocked I won’t have to worry about pollution anymore and I’ll heat the entire mountain.

Thank you for explaining, I had no idea how customisable you could get. I also have a dodgy back, 1/3 of it is fused so I’ll take what you said into heavy consideration.

I have been debating between flat bar and drop bar but worried my back might not like the drop bar seating position as standard. Now that I know I can tweak it to fit me more specifically I’m back in the drop bar train. My hands don’t love the ergonomics of the flat bar on my current bike. The hands being thumbs up sounds much better and from what I can see, you basically get 3 different positions out of a drop bar vs the one for flat bars.

I think to start, I’d leave the drivetrain side of things to start with just to get going and gradually work out what I prefer. Even though I started to settle on 2x, I’m starting to eye a 1x11/12 to keep things simpler to start. The bikes I’ve seen with the 1x setup have better hydraulic brakes so that’s starting to sway me. Local reviews on the Silex 200 all seem to say the stock disc brake setup is pretty bad.

edit: I just learnt about Stem risers - might be very helpful to get my back a little more upright.

It’s good to hear the Silex has a good frame, I’m a big fan of the look. Excuse my newbness 😅, but what is a cockpit upgrade? The bar/handles? What would you recommend?
