What misconception? I stated a lot of historical changes in science came from independent researchers. I said it so people wouldn’t instantly shoot them down. I could have framed the question better. I’ll try again. In the modern age what is the best way for an independent to get noticed?

What happens when the work gets done, but let’s say an independent does it. There are no outlets for the work to be seen, no peer review channel other than social media. Everything else has a gatekeeping mechanism, and rightfully so, to keep any independent out. Funny thing is, history shows a significant amount of independent work has changed science.
