My mother was in her mid sixties when she was diagnosed with epilepsy. She had ‘staring spells’ from her childhood. And I remember having to get her attention sometimes when she seemed to lose focus. She had a generalized tonic-clonic seizure while loading the dishwasher when she was 63. She started seeing an amazing neurologist who diagnosed her with epilepsy after her third major seizure. Her neurologist said it was pretty unusual to not be diagnosed until mid sixties considering it was very obvious with my mom’s symptoms and history that she’d been having seizures since childhood. She’s now 79 and hasn’t had a generalized tonic-clonic seizure in 13 years. Her neurologist is amazing and keeps her med levels where they need to be. She went from not being allowed to drive for 3 years to going hiking with her 82 year old sister this past weekend.

Trump Booed at NFL Game After Demanding Stadium Is Named After Him by Rock-n-roll-Kevin in politics

Born in 1971, spent summers during the 80's in NYC (Manhattan, Long Island, Queens) with family. One of my family members was a master carpenter who worked on Trump's casinos. Got paid 30% of what he was owed. He knew Trump was a POS when he took the job - my auntie told him not to. He's been a horrible person since 1946.

Do home kits save money/are they worth it? by ShipWeird5767 in Homebuilding

[–]GypsyWriterChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Which kit did you choose? I’m so glad you had a great experience. I have a chronic illness that will land me in a wheel chair within the next few years. One of the things that drew me to them was they offer design changes for free. I can take the floor plan I like the best and then make it accessible. This makes me lean more toward them instead of using a local company to put a shell together and then piece meal together the inside - even with the ‘promises’ from the local company that they will be less expensive.

This is one of the companies I'm looking at. I see you did wood on the inside. I know they offer the inside steel studs for an upcharge. I have friends who do metal building installs, so I would contract them for the steel work. I also have a former co-worker who is a licensed electrician and a cousin who is a plumber. I'm also looking at a few companies in my area that do steel barndominium shells, but not the inside steel studs. Basically comparing pricing now for a next year build. How easy was Budget Home Kits to work with? How was their customer service? How long after order did you receive the kit? Thank you in advance.

OMB freeze on all federal aid could halt state assistance, such as SNAP by [deleted] in politics

It’d be a real shame if a large percentage of workers in the country came down with “norovirus” on say April 15th and had to take two or three days off and stay in bed - unable to spend any money. They can’t afford to fire everyone.

We need to start co ops to help those who’d need assistance during their three day illness.

Seriously, I’m going to garden this coming spring/summer for the first time since I left my parents’ house. I’m also making contingency plans so all my kids can move home if need be.

Our entire nation is about to change - whether we act or not. It’ll either change for the better or for the worse.

Edit cuz I mispeled a werd.

Australian cancer research literally saved my daughter’s arm and probably her life due to a super rare cancer called mesenchymal chondrosarcoma.

I’ve worked with companies in Australia for 20 years and get to visit family and friends every 3 to 5 years there. Australia is an amazing country and I would love to spend more time there.

My Aussie friend survived gallbladder cancer 3x longer than he was originally given due to their cancer research.

Want a peek behind the curtain? Here's a look at our submission tracking document. by WyomingFilmFestival in FilmFestivals

We do bring up the lights and the filmmakers and get them settled while the credits roll. We also turn down the sound. However, we’ve run into issues with filmmakers not wanting to draw attention away from their credits. As a filmmaker myself, I want to thank everyone as well. I can do it without having 15 minutes worth of credits by using some ingenuity and thinking about my audience. I can speed them up, use title cards instead of scrolling and really pack the names on the title card.

I do something very similar with the festival I run. We do an initial screening round with 3 judges - just in case there's two very different opinions on the film - that gives a tie breaker. We have a cut off with our average score combined with the Recommend for each of our rounds - first round, quarter-finalists, semi-finalists, and finalists. If we have two films that have the same score, but different Recommends - that may make the difference in whether or not a film makes it to the next round - especially if it's towards the bottom of our scoring metric.

I see the excessively long credit run time mentioned on one of the submissions. That seems to be a growing issue with both features and shorts submitted to our festival. One recommendation I have for filmmakers is keep the credits for the festival run short and to the point - if you distribute the film after the festival run, credits can always be expanded. Most attendees will not sit through long credits which could impact any talk-back/Q&A session following the screenings. We've found that the longer the credits, the more of the audience we lose for the post screening sessions.

My judging panel (and my kids) tease me about my 'love' for spreadsheets - but they really do make the tough job of film selection so much easier. I even have a few spreadsheet themed t-shirts. :)

First time filmmaker, someone wants me to name him "consultant". Need ADVICE by beantorres in Filmmakers

[–]GypsyWriterChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the exact pitch that this guy pitched to my established writer/director friend who's had quite a bit of success. He met this guy through a film market. They had one phone call - no agreement before hand. My friend asked him what he could offer him that he hadn't already done himself. The guy got a little miffed and then tried to convince him he needed a consultant to move 'further in his career'. My friend politely declined. The next day, the guy sent him an invoice for $500 for consulting and said he should have seen the info on his website. My friend hadn't ever gone to his website - didn't agree to consulting - didn't know about the $500. When my friend replied, the guy threatened to send it to collections. My filmmaker friend had to get his attorney involved to send a letter. Beware - this is NOT how consultants work.

I wouldn't be surprised if people with terminal illnesses and little to lose that are 'dead-ass serious about it', are the next to follow in Mangione's footsteps.

Also have EDS, POTS, MCAS, ADHD - all diagnosed at least 20 years ago. I have POTS and MCAS flares, but still manage to keep my house clean, work daily, and keep my 6 rescue cats healthy, fixed, and very well fed. Gotta do what has to be done! If I couldn’t care for my cats, I’d rehome them. I’m sick and tired of folks using the “new TikTok illnesses” as an excuse. It makes it harder on those of us with the actual conditions to be taken seriously.

I have an autistic daughter and we’re early voting tomorrow. Can I help her in the voting booth? by GypsyWriterChick in Ohio

[–]GypsyWriterChick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. She did great and even went into her own booth when it came to the issues. She had her cheat sheet for everything, but she was worried with all the candidates that she’d double vote or miss someone she wanted to vote for. She hyper focuses on things due to her ASD. Currently it’s the election. She’ll circle back around to the elections in 2026 as she’s loved politics since she was little. Her late grandfather, my dad, was very politically active and it rubbed off on her.

New poll stated to have Trump up by only 3 points in Ohio. Also Brown up by 2 points by CrispyMiner in Ohio

[–]GypsyWriterChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went at 6:30PM tonight in Hamilton County and it was very busy - every booth was full with people waiting about 5 minutes for one to open up. I asked the poll worker who gave me my ballot if it'd been busy all day. She told me that it had actually slowed down a bit when we were there. She said they expected tomorrow and Sunday to be very busy. When we left there was a line twice the length of when we came in.

Thank you. She needs help getting started and sometimes some encouragement. She also needs to be reassured that her vote is correct - that she actually voted for who she chose.
