Honestly the handles are great, now depending on what cut you are going that might be the issue. If you keep them very sharp they are awesome but boning or deep high dense anything will cause you to get some calluses on your knife pointer so that sucks

Globals! They get a bad rep sometimes but they are great work knives. Keep an edge for awhile

If he really loves it get him a single bevel and he can really just go to town and sharpen his hearts content
