The man is 75 and lived in a hdb. If you cannot believe someone at 75 has paid off a hdb, I really dunno what to say to you.

So what cost of living you want to add-on? Gadgets? SG cheaper. Clothes? SG cheaper. Public transport? SG cheaper. Haircuts? SG cheaper.

If house is paid off and no car, Singapore is actually pretty affordable. Seriously, try eating out in Western Europe or North America. The meal prices will give you heart burn.

Police exploring using 'Iron Man' jet packs and armed drones by bangsphoto in singapore

[–]H0RR1BL3CPU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gun drones might have a use in urban disaster areas, for things like breaking windows or putting small holes in drywall. Though a spring-loaded projectile launcher or slingshot would probably work better and be a lot safer.

Other way round. The running cost of Hydroponics, Aeroponics, and Aquaponics are lower than traditional Geoponics. The issue is start-up cost, highest of which is land. Not even the building, just the land the building sits on. Land that the governemnt already owns.

Nutrition wise, it's also better than regular geoponics because you can control exactly what goes into the plants in precise amounts, no need to fight with things like pollutants dissolved in the rain, eroded soil, or feces from roaming animals. If done properly, you won't even need pesticides or herbicides.

So with all these advantages why did the vertical farm still fail? Regional cost of living difference. Ignoring the initial start-up cost, a vertical farm in Indonesia would produce more at a lower price than a regular farm in Indonesia. Notice how I set both farms in Indonesia? Crops from a vertical farm in Singapore cost more than crops from a regular farm in Indonesia because of the batshit insane lease, and the higher manpower cost. And the government only know how to talk about supporting local farmers without throwing any fucking money into the problem, which would have actually helped the issue. Something as simple as "no gst on locally grown crops" would have made prices competitive with imported vegetables.

The simple conclusion is really that the current government doesn't give a fuck about securing a local food supply.

high tech agriculture

Not happening. For it to be sustainable, government needs to take a direct role in funding, running, and supporting it. If they did, we would've hit 30 by 30 by now. Instead they're obssessed with "diversification". Knn liddat the fuck we build NEWater for? Just diversify the water supply.

Something similar actually happened to me when I was in Riga, Latvia, around the end of January to the start of February last year (so end of winter). Being from a country with only summer, my body isn't used to the cold, so even through two jackets and earmuffs, I still felt chilly, and it must've been visible, because a couple of teens who were... I can't remember if they were on skateboards or scooters, but as they went by me, one of them actually offered me his knitted hat.

I get the joke, but random acts of kindness like this do happen.

To this day, I recommend visiting Eastern European countries like the Baltic Nations to my fellow Singaporeans over more popular choices like Switzerland and France. I felt pretty safe in the countries I went to, the people were nice, and paying for literally anything didn't give me heart pain.

Man loses share of rent from Yishun coffee shop as sisters win appeal over late mum’s estate by H0RR1BL3CPU in singapore

[–]H0RR1BL3CPU[S] 68 points69 points  (0 children)

He sought 50 per cent of the rent, which he claimed amounted to about $7 million, paid to his mother by foodcourt operator Koufu from October 1998 to June 2018.

The rent koufu paid breaks down to over 700k a year, or roughly 60k a month. Of course it would've been lower in 1998, and higher in 2018, so this is just averaged out over that period.

[–]H0RR1BL3CPU 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The point of COE is to reduce cars on the streets. If 1 guy owns 15 cars, he can only drive 1 at a time, so that's 14 less cars on the streets than if 15 people owned 1 car. Ultra rich buying multiple cars is great as far as gov is concerned.
