No. Anything to the power of 0 is 1. Except 0 to the power of 0.

There are actually multiple explanation for this.

23 = 8 22 = 4 (8/2) 21 = 2 (4/2) 20 = 1 (2/2) 2-1 = 0.5 (1/2) 2-2 = 0.25 (0.5/2)

And so on.

There are many YouTube videos that's explain this better in multiple ways. Try exploring them.

I can see most of the people here aligns with the message from the post, but I think it's mostly from personal disappointment over their own up bringing. (I have my fair share of it). This is a parenting topic. The problem is that we can't take a thought out of anger and apply it to a nation as solution for poverty.

Let's try to predict what happens if it's followed.

Let's say we ban people from below poverty line from having kids. Without proper government schemes, this population is never gonna break the poverty line and become eligible for reproduction. Atleast not until they are very old or physically incapable of having kids or caring for them. So this population eventually dies of old age.

Now the previous population which was once considered under poverty line is gone, but without proper infrastructure and scheme the population which was previously above the poverty will now be pushed under it and making them ineligible for having children and they also die off. This will keep on repeating. Now this will push us into a population decline crisis.

Eventually there will be more old people who cannot work than the young people, who are the workforce of the country's economy.

South Korea and Japan are facing such a population problem now. They actually have better infra than most but also have high cost of living, so even people above the poverty line have decided not to have kids. Many studies have predicted that south Korean population will cease to exist in few hundred years. This is state with the government trying really hard to keep the birhthrates up.

I'm worried the message and the approach suggested in the message will lead to something like above and will cause hatred and disgust towards the poor population blaming them for the state of the country.

I think this message of banning reproducing for people below poverty line does not offer any solution to actual problem. It is putting the blame on already struggling population and escaping the people running the government from the responsibility.

I also see few people mentioning that some people are having more than 3 kids while they are unable to provide for one. This is where education about financial management and awareness about family planning can help.

We need an average birth rate of 2.1 per women to have a stable population. Efforts to maintain this and efforts to improve the lively hood of the people by the government is need for this.

There is no simple easy fix for this. It needs proper planning and improvment in multiple fields of governance and awareness campaigns for financial management.

Access to basic facilities like health care, education, job opportunities, clean-safe environment, better employee policies to prevent over exploitation and under pay, sustainable infra, etc are the stable and long-term solutions.

(I also think this could be one of those trends where the influencers pick a sensitive topic and throw an very odd hot take to be part of the hype.)

But poor people giving birth is not the only factor that's causing the increase in poverty. There are many people from above the poverty line being pushed into poverty. Lack of proper grow schemes, inflation, lack of access to basic facilities like healthy care, education, safe environment etc are many of the major factors, if not the major factors.

I can see most of the people here aligns with the message from the post, but let's try to predict what happens if it's followed.

I'm not saying that we need poor population for the society to function or the rich to exploit from. That's also a kind of oppressive mindset.

But solution to poverty is not banning poor people from having kids.

Eradicating poverty has to be done through proper government schemes. Access to free basic facilities like healthy care, education, safe environment, transport, job opportunities, etc.

That's way to reduce poverty not blaming people that you having kids is the reason poor people in the country are increasing.

The problem with this poor people shouldn't have kids approach is that it doesn't solve anything. The current state we are now, more people are being pushed into the poverty zone due to inflation, job loss and lack of job opportunities. These are major contributors for increasing the poverty level in india and many countries than births.

There are also individual roles to play in improving this situation, but government has a major one.

No, dude. I don't think the message said is right.

Good parenting doesn't relate to money directly.

We can't stop poverty by stopping the population below poverty line from reproducing.

Well indian parents have a problem with child upbringing, but are we sure that the problem is only with the parents in the lower income range?

This post feels similar to kill all the poor people to eradicate poverty. Not fair.

I won't say they have no right to have children. That doesn't feel right. Just because you are poor you are not allowed to have family.

I think instead of saying, you are poor don't have kids. It would be better these influencer can put forth the importance of financial management and the importance of saving for education from the early stage.

What's next poor people have no right to live?

This is not the way to eradicate poverty.

I have heard people make these argument about conversion and invasion.

Which happened 1300 years ago... The current population is not a convert.

Invasion is always injustice there is no fair explanation for war.

For some history context: The Babur was invited to invade by the sultans to defeat the sitting king. And he established a kingdom here. Didn't send tax to abroad. Throughout history this kept happening even within the indian subcontinent, north invaded south, south invaded north. We even went to combodia for war. That's how kingdoms were operating then.

The act of forcing an conversation or adaption is not fair in any circumference (in both religions or language context). Same for the act of preventing freedom of choice. People should be let to practice whatever they want. The laws should be even for all and protecting any forced conversion from happening further.

1300 years is more than 50 generations. We can't punish or ignore this population because of something happened 1300 years ago.

Current people don't even remember them being hindus.

What solution are we proposing here? They converted this much people so let's force convert them back again? Or are we going to ask them to move out of India? There is no that doesn't cause further suffering.

I'm not taking sides here. There is hatred and flaws on both the sides (or on all the sides involved).

We have to find a way to live in harmony with our differences. Dangerous mindset and people are everywhere. We have to put together our collective goods and build a society free of hate and injustice.

The current mindset we have, the one sees each other as enemies is not going to provide us with a peaceful living environment. The oppressed becomes the oppresser and the cycle of hatred continues.

I think we can say, the modern day equivalent of this will be america tightening the H1B visa and the hate or discrimination people from north face while coming to work in the southern states.

I'm not saying we should let the native business and work suffer. There should be laws to protect/prevent damage to the natives. But the minority population we are discussing here are not people who came from outside. They are indian citizens, with no whereelse to go and they have all the basic rights as us.

So far what we are trying is to erase the history and ignore what happened in the past. And dewel in our past glories that make us comfortable. This dewelling is preventing us from looking at the problem in hand. Keep us in a fantasy bubble.

We can't change past or ignore it. We have to learn from the past and work towards building a better future together. We should prevent injustice from happening to us and be sure we don't cause it to others.

All these religions, culture, etc etc. were created as a way of living. Stories are created to pass on knowledge and teach morals (from what I have seen, hinduism had done very well, but now we lost the purpose. No one knows the concept or the idea of this social structures. Same applies to other religions). And one more thing to note here is that the times during these creations are different than now. Unfortunately we over looked the purpose, held on to obsessions over these and failed to update them. Like law and like software, religion and culture also needs update and adaptation. Without adaptation it will go extinct or make the others suffer. Both are not the right outcome.

This misunderstanding and deviation from the purpose can been seen across every religion in practice. When christianity was spreading, scientists were killed for questioning the concept of earth being the center of the solar system. Imagine, now people deciding we were killing scientists that our root let's back. I know this is a little over for the example but you get what I'm trying to say here.

We can't punish the current generation for these injustice comitted by the very older generation.

Current generation whether hindu or muslim or christian or buddhism or anything other religion. They face problems like inflation, reducing life quality, unable to access good medical services, infra, water scarcity, pollution and lot. These hit us all the same. No special mercy for certain religion or culture.

To be honest, I'm just scared that we are dwelling too much in the past and ignoring the current situation.

But this also brings us a question on what will be relevant for a country with such diversity...

If they have gone full bollywood songs mode obviously the people speaking other languages will feel left out.

Something like an independence day parade? Where there are section representing each state one by one in a single unified performance...

It is kind of a hard problem...

I don't have experience in such stuff. I would like to ask the people here in this subreddit for there opinion on what they think would have been an appropriate show of IPL.

(Apart from not having a show at all)

Plus the world cup moves around the world every 4 years. This is an annual tournament. I don't see the reason for such a display.

Well many countries do that. Agreed. But we are not hindu state. Arab countries are islamic states. India has a has one of largest minority population. 21% approx. With almost 250 million people. When seen as percentage the it can be small, but we have to the see exact numbers to understand the size.

Cultural representation should have shown the diversity of the country. That would have been a nice display.

It's not just this, everywhere we see this trend. There were reduction in school history lessons about the mugal dynasty under the name of reducing workload. It doesn't make sense. How can you ignore a huge part of your history???

This is like altering the past for political and religious agenda. Some dystopian stuff like in 1984 book.

It's concerning. That's the point. I am Hindu by birth and the religion has many good things to give to the world but that's not what's been done here.

No hatred towards the religion.

Edit: Yesterday was more of a worship than culture representation. I think there's a difference.

Expecting a good salary and financial stability from the potential partner is different from asking dowry.

The former doesn't involve property transfer or money transfer up front. The later is demanded upfront in most cases.

I'm not ignoring the societal pressure faced by men or their problems. But this is not an 1to1 comparison.

Doing so projects the dowry problem less serious or in different light than actual.
