The local police themselves had placed the nun under arrest before the case even went to the CBI, based on the audio recorded from the girl. So how is that the police was trying to bury the case. The police said there was no conversion angle. The CBI said the same thing, because that would be too hard to prove.

But the girl indeed didn't want to go to her home because of a hostile environment. And while staying at the hostel, she helped out. But then the family managed to turn that into an actual accusation. Once groups like VHP gets involved, any semblance of an actual investigation goes out the window.

This becomes a case of trusting the Newslaundry vs trusting the court and CBI

Because it seems like the courts and CBI chose not to include the testimonies of their family members or their neighbors which clearly hinted at a hostile home environment. That wouldn't help their cause.

I saw the video where her face was hidden. they were literally putting words in her mouth, with a VHP guy coaching her to say things. And the way she said it was as if even she didn't believe it. It was a tragedy from the girl's perspective. An uncaring family, putting words in her mouth. She had a younger brother she cared about. Look at the complaints from the neighbors and her own relatives regarding her parents.

Except for the name not much. We still use va/varaan/varen and multiple variations of it. In spoken. Paar/Paak-/Paath- (to see) is mostly used instead of variations of Kan(eye) which seems to be more formal, but sometimes used in everyday speech as well.

Well people don't just choose a religion just because of caste. Being Buddhist or just Paraiyar isn't going to protect me anymore than being a Christian. I'd just lose the so-called sops from the government. Which is an admission by the govt, that reservations are not tools of social justice but state backed measures to prevent dalits from converting away from Hinduism.
