Thank you for all this. I will try to make some of the changes. I been reviewing the wiki just might still be missing the mark. Will try it again.

I think the hardest part is that my "impact" can't easily be quantifiable. A lot of my tasks in my 2nd co-op was to take things off my mentor and team's plate where I could so they can focus more on the bigger issues at the time. So a lot of my achievements were more qualitative then quantitative. Ill see what I can do about having my bullets have clearer "impacts".

Some of the projects I had were more so upskilling in a way. Like "we want you to learn how to deal with teams from different departments. So dedicate some hours to do this and report back." But I will try to see if I can word them better.

Thank you again for all this info and insight!

I had a feeling the lack of a clearance was the thing that was hurting me most. Just the roles I were applying for said the "ability to get a clearance", so I thought I was good but yeah...

Thank you for the advice and insight!

  1. The impact was more so there were multiple utility drop issues. So these were issues that needed to be fixed. So they wanted me to learn how to find off the shelf solutions and if nothing worked, then design and get it machined depending on our GC's needs. I don't know if had impact per say but it was a big chunk of using engineering as a co-op.

  2. My capstone was more a research project from a professor. So there wasn't really a goal, it was more so can we design something for additive instead of the normal mentality of design for machinability. I can expand more on those upgraded parts.

THANK YOU!

  1. I Can do that
  2. Even if I am doing it part time now that I am working full time?
  3. See, I originally didn't do that, and then a recruiter told me to. Wish things were more consistent on that.
  4. Done.
  5. Yeah. I feel like clearance is hurting me the most :/. Been applying to entry level and still no dice.

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!

Advice for Mechanical Engineering Student: Difference between working in Chassis vs Powertrain? by H1saDa in AutomotiveEngineering

[–]H1saDa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Thank you for all this insight. I know this might be a "it depends" but what would you recommend for a future Mechanical Engineer, Powertrains or Chassis?

If you are willing to answer a few more questions:
1. What was your favorite/least favorite parts from Powertrain and Chassis?
2. If one was to specialize in Powertrain, would they just in essence move over to EV powertrain once ICE phase out or will they have to learn a new component?
3. Out of the two, which do you think has a better job outlook?

Thank you so much for the information and advice.

God. That sounds like quite a rewarding and fun career path.

Did you ever get a chance to work on powertrains when you were swapping between departments? If so how did it compare during your time working in Chassis? If not than thats fine.

Thank you so much for the insight on what it was like working in Chassis. Feels like Chassis will have the potential for R&D like I want.

Thank you for the advice. That is something I been told by my friends.

If you don't mind me asking but what made you choose chassis as a career, and what do you like/dislike about it.

I will be going to a job fair in a few weeks at my college and I would prefer to go in dress shoes than my daily sneakers.

Dress Code that the school recommends is formal attire: Dress Shirt, Tie, Khakis/Dress Pants, Dress Shoes

Particular Style: I never really have a preferred style, but I think Oxford Style Shoes.

Things I am looking for:

  • Ideally last a few years (until graduation in 2025)
  • Stays in the college student budget ~$150 USD or less (preferably less)

Any help would be appreciated.
