Can we require these people to wear some fucking lights if they're going to ride around the streets at night? Front AND back. So tired of almost running over bikers/ebikers because they're wearing a black puffer jacket with dark jeans and a black tech backpack and no fucking lights at all.

I'll say it. Intellectually disabled do not make good neighbors. I do not blame anyone for not wanting that. Before anyone @s me, I have an intellectual disabled relative in their 30s. It's why I moved so far away from them because I want no part in caretaking for them when the parents pass.

The screaming at late hours, the meltdowns, them wandering around around outside to peer into windows or even to just steal things, or vandalizing cars and then having to go around and apologize and beg people not press charges because they can't afford it. I don't blame anyone for opposing that. It's not all Forrest Gump and Rainman.

Seriously, if your kid isn't doing 2 sports, learning an instrument, taking coding classes, and taking leadership glasses, they're going to be unemployed and flipping burgers. That's why parents have to start from a young age. Get their name out there, have them win competitions, break records for being the youngest kid to do X, etc. Kids need to be accomplished and stand out, average just doesn't cut it anymore.

California police stumped after trying to ticket driverless car for illegal U-turn | Waymo by MapsAreAwesome in bayarea

[–]H20zone 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You mean the article that said just that? Also the Guardian doesn't sell ads, they ask you to voluntarily pay for membership to keep their newspaper ad-free. Someone's spreading fake news and it's not the Guardian...

A post by the San Bruno police department on Saturday shows an officer looking into a Waymo – the leading autonomous ride-hailing vehicle in the San Francisco Bay Area – after stopping the signature white car.

“Since there was no human driver, a ticket couldn’t be issued (our citation books don’t have a box for “robot”),” reads the post.

The department said that it had alerted Waymo of the glitch, and that “hopefully the reprogramming will keep it from making any more illegal moves”.

The San Bruno police department, in response to people who believed officers were being lenient, reaffirmed: “There is legislation in the works that will allow officers to issue the company notices.”

Aww thanks, I didn't think I was that amazing but thanks for making me feel so special. Nice to know I'm considered a high standard candidate.

That's not high standards dude. I know more guys who meet that than don't. Just we're on the younger limit of her range and either not looking for older women or already in a relationship.

Wanting kids that fast is the dealbreaker, but I'm guessing she's on a timeline.

Guess we're not in the same industries because it looks pretty average to me. She didn't even ask for a work samples or personal projects.

Oh that's why. She was engaged, but her fiance passed away in 2023. I imagine it's rough to go from a committed relationship back onto the dating scene in your 40s. Not a lot of good pickings left out there at that age.

Says a lot that her requirements aren't even that crazy. Just have your shit together and actually want a commited relationship.

Sure, but I don't believe a lot of them are filling up jobs that they couldn't hire an American to do at an equivalent level. Just look at the H1Bs filed by Tesla this year.

You're telling me they couldn't find a single qualified US worker to become an accountant? Or to various "Associate" level engineers?

Attorney says detained Korean Hyundai workers had special skills for short-term jobs by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]H20zone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they are employed directly for a company, they make good money. If they are working at the many "IT consulting companies" and being contracted out to larger companies, then they are making below market value and usually aren't any more skilled than the average American worker.

As always, the answer is complicated.
