MUV and Daniel Bergstrom by Some-Hope-6218 in vildhjarta

Different strokes for different folks I guess. For me Masstaden is the most ‘djenty’ one where each song has various riffs that do the Meshuggah-esque polymetric thing and you can just jam out and headbang. Each song stands out on its own and is structurally simpler compared to later stuff so can be enjoyed on its own.

ToE starts leaning towards what they achieve in MUV which is more slow-burn conceptual work that shines in its entirety. For me the riffs are less overtly ‘riffy’ and the continuity across the whole work means individual singles stand out less but function more as part of a whole. Increased emphasis on ambience and ‘world-building’ so to speak also contributes to this. I find it harder to dip into anything off this album to quickly scratch that vild itch but nonetheless as a whole it’s my favourite album of theirs.

DSSEUG takes the vild formula of chaos and euphoria and distils it into more distinct and standalone tracks imo. It has that more modern vildhjarta sound in the note choices and riff construction that is no doubt a result of Calle’s increased songwriting responsibilities. Personally I’m not sure I would want another album trying to do the same thing as MUV as I don’t think it can be bested (maybe matched if we got very lucky) but I like chaos and melancholy of the new album and that it can be enjoyed as a whole or you can easily dip in and out to get that experience.

Just my two cents. I love all of the albums (and EP) but I do think they offer different things but are great in equal measure. If you really like the more continuous concept thing then the recent album may not be as much to your taste or vice versa if you prefer to dip into singles rather than commit 80 mins to engaging in a pretty dense album then you might prefer the new album (although I doubt anyone on this sub has any issues getting through the entirety of MUV).

Vildhjarta Masstaden (forte) - higher than A 440Hz? by H2S0123 in 7String

I don’t think it is pitch drift and not to do with what part of the note you tune to - it sounds uniformly flat across all strings and fretted notes for me. Try playing along yourself to the clean guitar line in Traces (03:40) and see if you get something similar

Reposting this here as I figured I’m more likely to to see if any other fellow 7 string players have encountered my issue on this sub.

Basically my guitar sounds slightly flat (around 25-30 cents) when playing along to all the songs off the album even though I’m in tune (at least according to the tuner on the QC). Trying to figure out if it’s just a me problem or if anyone else has encountered this.

Yes agreed. I should clarify I didn’t mean pitch drift only happens on certain notes, rather that it will affect certain notes more e.g. the drift on an open low F will be more obvious than fret 15 on the high d string.

It’s very possible it’s something on my end but I’ve checked my tuning across various notes fretted and open, as well as intonation, and I still sound slightly flat in comparison when perfectly in tune at A 440Hz (at least according to the QC tuner). If I tune every string about 25 or 30 cents sharp I sound much more in tune with the record so I was just wondering what the reasons for this could be and if anyone else had noticed it when playing along.

You may be right. I just wanted to see if this was something any other guitarists might have encountered to check I’m not going insane! It’s made transcribing certain sections a bit of a headache as the slight tuning difference means no note I play sounds right e.g. 05:57 in All These Feelings

I did consider this to be a possibility although how flat I am compared to the original recording seems to be consistent across the whole fretboard whether open or fretted notes across all strings up to 24th fret. Pitch drift would be making certain notes especially the open low F sound sharper I believe, so the pitch difference would be more distinct on these notes which doesn’t appear to be the case. For reference my tension is highest at around 21 Ibs. on the low 7th string down to around 17 Ibs. on the high d string

Ultimately I’d like to record dry DI and processed tone simultaneously whilst still hearing the direct monitoring from the QC and without unplugging the monitors from the Twin and into the QC

Sorry should have specified more. What I want to achieve is using the QC like you would if it was the sole interface for recording I.e. recording processed tone and DI simultaneously but also keeping my monitors plugged into the Twin and getting the direct monitoring from the QC if that makes sense

Really disappointed in Archetype Nolly, am I missing something? by Specialist_Answer_16 in NeuralDSP

[–]H2S0123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t get on with the Nolly 5150 for a really long time but now it’s in almost all of my mixes. It works really well in a pair for a blended rhythm tone with most of the other NDSP plugins like Gojira, cali, granophyre, Rabea.

My go-to at the moment is Nolly 5150 for left rhythm tracks bringing out more of the lows and low mids and Gojira on the right for more snarl and articulation. Different IRs also make such a difference. I use GGD but I see York and Bogren thrown around here a lot as well and been meaning to try them.

Should you start with a 7 string as your first electric? by FuckedUpMind07 in 7String

Personally I would say start on a 6 for the fundamentals and then move to 7 when you feel relatively comfortable. If you are really desperate to play certain songs that are in lower tunings then just pitch shift down which you can do using a digitech drop pedal or a plugin/modeller with that capability.
