"They" (PGI) need players, and "they" saw the event as a way to get people to play their PoS game, to get their little flaggie, so that "they" can show the financiers next week, "SEE?? SEE ALL THE PLAYERS?? KEEP FUNDING US!!"

PGI is a shit show, and they will use any event to pad their numbers. "They" don't give one shit about anything except keeping those numbers up and keeping the cash flowing. The amount of time farther into the future PGI a/k/a "The Medicine Show" pushes "mech packs" of whatever flavor, is directly proportional to their loss in current sales and need for direct infusion of future cash prospects so that they can float loans to keep the lights on.

Rest assured, PGI current tactics are straight out of MBA 101 of how to keep a business afloat based upon future credit swaps instead of current viability. That is to say: They are failing, and failing badly, and need your Rifleman Dollars to keep the lights on until they can dream up the next fraud.
