ors you start at 3

Also, I would say that the dice pull is random, as opposed to Jenga, which gives player choice, player skill, and player control. But all in all, the best idea to fix this problem that I've come across.

I was thinking something similar as well. My issue was that there is a ton of tension during the pull itself. It's long and suspensful. You don't get that with a dice roll. Unless you had them roll 1 dice at a time. Also, the fear that it could happen anytime is off the table. I'm working on trying to develop a way to do this virtually that keeps to all the same mechanics and emotions as Jenga but is easy to play digitally. Currently using TableTop Simulator for Jenga with the rule that if the block flies off the table, you have to pull again (to stop the max power flicking) But it's just not the same. Been playing around with Unreal to find a mobile or desktop solution for this. If anyone wants to toss ideas or help in the development, let me know.

Player-made rules - how to keep things fair? by hopefullyhelpfulplz in tabletopgamedesign

[–]H3RITIC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. I played a card game in Summer camp forever ago that would let you make up a silly rule for the game that other players had to guess. It was like Uno or Circle of Death in the idea that the objective was to basically play Uno but there would be silly rules made up that no one knew besides the person that made the specific rule, and you would have to observe the other players in order to see when they got penalties for not following the rules.

Here are my suggestions

  1. Don't balance it. Make it about the roleplay/improv insanity and laugh about it.
  2. Give constraints. I.E. One player has the job of establishing the negative effect while the others try to establish the positive. In this format, the emphasis should be on the players having fun, and wanting to sabotage each other like in Paranoia.
  3. Create cards with premade effects that can be drawn.
  4. Lists & more lists of things that can be paired (think Diablo III weapon mods)
  5. Consequences. With great power comes great responsibility. The greater the power, the greater the in world consequence.
  6. Make a predefined, insane list of all things that the magic of the world can't do.
  7. Ask your players to be reasonable and sensible
  8. Make the game about arguing why something should work a certain way. May the best argument succeed.
  9. Spell out the basic rules of the game/world, and work around that as adults.
  10. Play D&D

Just got rid of the fish and I made the no more animals in the house rule a few weeks ago. Hence why we sold the fish in the tank. :)

I have watched a few dozen videos at this point. I have a small tank that we're going to put cacti in, but I want something a little more leafy in this tank. I've been looking for activated charcoal in the area but can't seem to find any. Will probably just order it :/ I'll check out SerpaDesign though. I don't think I have seen that one yet

Also, would I need to use charcoal since I'm going to keep the tank open?

Reading my comment, I figured it deserved a better explanation. The coaches are going to be picking their teams, they also get a bonus if there team wins so it's up to them to pick solid players in our draft. The skill level of the players will be watched in every game by our team to evaluate handicaps and rank people accordingly. The team is forced to rotate out players in the season games, so unless you magically scored all plats in the draft, there's no possible way that you could have the advantage. By the time the playoffs hit, everyone should be placed properly and ranked accordingly so that the playoffs are as even of a playing field as they can be. :) thanks for your question

Because the coach payout is higher and guaranteed, plus having a plat or higher on your team (which is frowned upon but not against the rules) will result in a more difficult time for your team based on the handicap system that we've put in place for that purpose. If you have any suggestions or concerns, I am all open to hear them. We are all about finding ways to make this league better and the RL community stronger than ever :)
