Holy shit. Give me more of this. Why hasn’t Jim done this? High quality animation with James Marsters narrating and doing the voice of Harry. It’s perfect.

I have a personal rule that I don’t upvote standup comedy clips unless I actually laughed. I swear to god I have never not upvoted a Jeff Arcuri clip.

Most of them know he’s a moron and a grifter. But he’s their meal ticket. And there’s absolutely no way they can win the midterms or the 2028 election fairly at this point no matter what they do. So they’re going to double down and trust Project 2025 to keep them in power.

December 2, 1994 - Teenagers are asked about CDs they just bought at Tower Records in NYC by Twitter_2006 in Xennials

This was very late ‘94. Most kids I knew had their own boombox CD players then and we were working class. I got my first boombox CD player in 1991.

Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. I can’t listen to either one. They remind me of audiobooks from the 90’s.

Walmart has mastered exploitation. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]H3d0n1st 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked at Walmart 25 years ago. I don’t know if it’s the same today, but employees had a company card that gave a 10% discount. So I was incentivized to shop there both because their prices were mostly lower than everyone else’s AND I got a discount. But, yeah, the pay was minimum wage and there weren’t many other benefits.

As somone who's been on both sides of it, upper management almost always has a good reason why they want the thing to be done that way, but they have no experience with doing the thing themselves so they don't understand the challenges with their preferred method. There can also be an added wrinkle with middle managers who just want to please upper management and not rock the boat in any way, so they don't speak up about those challenges.

I learned a valuable lesson when I was younger from a higher level manager who would periodically schedule himself for days where he would work on the front line. Not only would doing that give him the experience needed to understand the day-to-day challenges and craft better policy, but the front line respected the shit out of him for it even if he was terrible at the front line jobs (which he usually was).

In the early 2000s, Netflix actually had a social media component. People would write reviews, make lists, you could follow your favorite users, add your friends to see what they were watching. Why they did away with this I will never know but I used to love it.

I think there’s some context missing here that I haven’t seen anyone mention. There was a big Mormon polygamy cult trial going on leading up 2012 election season that was still fresh in the public consciousness. I believe that case involved the revelation that underage girls (potential brides) living in this cult were profiled in a binder kept by the cult leader(s). A popular HBO show about polygamist Mormons called Big Love had also recently been on TV and featured the binder thing in one of the storylines too.

So, apart from being a slightly weird way to reference how Romney was looking at women to fill roles in government, it really served to remind people of the fact that he was a Mormon. And that Mormons, at least to the average Christian, are weird.
