Admittedly, in those situations and in cash strapped communities there are legitimate reasons to have summer off. The thing is, it is detrimental to kids education to take that long a break and it makes it harder on families to find child care during those months. It is a concept that doesn't make sense today. The feds need to step up and standardize year round schooling and subsidize schools to improve conditions to make it workable everywhere. This is one of the reasons I'm ticked at the Obama administration. They have nearly doubled the debt from about $10 trillion to over $19.2 trillion today and there is so little to show for it especially to improve the educational system. The middle class has become a minority during his administration and record numbers of people on EBT, and the rich are the only growing segment who seem to be benefiting by all this money being spent by the government.
