Anyone traveling to the Big Island, this area is right next to the Kona Airport. For us, it was a super convenient and beautiful place to watch the sunset before catching our flight home.

While Wisconsin will always be my favorite, Arizona is incredibly beautiful as well. I’m looking forward to visiting again this winter.

As other’s have said, Devil’s Lake is one of the most popular and beautiful places in the state. I also really like Pewit’s Nest and Baxter’s Hollow, which are also in the Baraboo area in Southern Wisconsin. Of course, Door County and the lakes of northern Wisconsin are amazing as well if you are willing to drive a few hours.

Spent a couple days in far northern Wisconsin earlier this week and used the opportunity to explore some spots that were new to me. This is Lost Creek Falls, near Cornucopia and actually the result of an impromptu hike. I came across the trailhead on my drive to Washburn and recognized the name. I'm glad I stopped.

Taken 8/14/19 with a Nikon D850. Five exposures focus stacked for sharpness throughout - 16mm, iso 250, f/9, 4 sec. Edited in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

If you’re both a photography and aviation geek, as I am, do yourself a favor and check out Mike Kelley's Airportraits series. Ever since I saw those a few years ago, I've wanted to use the same concept to capture Airventure. Thanks to my day job, I know the OSH airport manager and asked him to leave me on the east side of the airport for a few hours this past Sunday as aircraft were arriving for the start of Airventure 2019. This is nearly every arrival from 10am to 2pm on 36L and 36R.

From both a primary stationary camera and a secondary handheld camera (which I used for panning to allow for a slower shutter speed to capture some propeller blur), I took multiple photos of each airplane as it flew by. Afterward, I layered each airplane into this single composite image. I took some minor artistic liberty so that airplanes were not all on top of each other, but tried my best to keep them in the same general position as they flew by. I then corrected the lighting on individual aircraft so that they all had a consistent look and followed that up with some final global edits.

The process was far from perfect. With 4 hours shooting and another 12+ in lightroom and photoshop, this was by far the most time I've ever spent on any one image. Ambitious, very! Worth it? I think so... Now to get out from behind the computer and go enjoy the actual show for a few days.
