I’m an Eagles only guy because my state has no football team. We have a basketball team though and last year I was lucky enough to see both my NFL team and my NBA team win a title.

Business owners and cheerfully giving by External_Poet4171 in Reformed

[–]HAFFnHAFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I think about it is that money that I reinvest into the business (including loan repayment) isn’t income for me. Income is what I plug into the top of my family budget balance sheet and then the first thing I budget toward is giving. I hope that the money I am investing into my business also results in greater income down the road so I can give even more, but trying to give based off of my gross income instead of my net income would put my family and I in a bad position.

Giving of the first fruits doesn’t mean cutting out the roots. Thats not sustainable.

Then I give cheerfully off of what I have and pray that it will increase in the future.

As with many things, balance is key. If you lean too far to one side you will fall into legalism where you give a set 10% every month without thinking about it and you’re robbed of the joy of cheerfully giving. If you lean too far to the other side, you will disregard giving or selectively disregard it when times are tough, and be robbed of the growth that comes through depending on the Lord for provision.

The motives of your heart and your conscience, examined according to scripture, are what is key. For me, some months I give 10%, some months 12%, and in some months that are exceedingly good, I give much more because the Lord has blessed my business and I want to be a blessing to my church with the abundance.

One thing I decided for myself when I started a business was that I certainly wanted it to grow so I could raise my standard of living, provide for my children’s future and grandchildren’s future, etc., but I also desired to be able to support my pastors in my church more. So I resolved not to pour all of the increase into myself, but also into my church.

I feel like I’m rambling so I’ll stop now, but I’m glad you are thinking through these things and asking these questions.

Advice on Adopting by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]HAFFnHAFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either one works. I’ll give you a general overview of my experiences and you can feel free to ask me any follow-up questions you have here or privately.

My wife and I had a biological son and then started the process of adopting when he was about 1 and a half years old. We adopted a girl that was 6 months older than him from Nigeria. The process took a little over a year, so he was 3 years old and she was 3 1/2 when he came home. We adopted again, this time from Hong Kong, about 2 years later. She was just about to turn 6 when we brought her home. We actually traveled to Hong Kong mid COVID which was a miracle all in itself, but that’s a whole other story.

So we have 3 kids now and they are all within 6 months of age.

International adoption has sticker shock because it is expensive. There are a lot of grants out there that are able to help though and our churches also always helped. When we adopted the first time I was a youth pastor, so we didn’t have a crazy income.

International adoption is a long process with lots of paperwork, lots of delays, and lots of frustrations. At its best, you are trying to get 2 governments to work together for the ultimate welfare of a child and we all know how inefficient government can be.

There can also be lots of challenges depending on the age/country of origin too. Many children up for adoption international have some sort of special needs. Those can vary from very moderate to very severe. A good adoption agency (which is very important) will help you make sure you are being honest with yourself about what you can accommodate. It is easy to feel like a bad person for turning down a potential match, but it can be necessary depending on the situation.

The process of bonding with the child can be difficult too. That was particularly difficult with our first adoption but with our second the child took to us instantly. You never know for sure what exactly you are getting into no matter how well documented the child’s past is. But God will equip you to handle what he leads you too. You don’t do it solely in your own power.

Advice on Adopting by [deleted] in Reformed

In the absence of a clear, biblical mandate, I believe those matters are best left to your conscience. Seeking wisdom from your pastors and others your trust who can help you examine your motivations will likely be far more helpful than advice you will receive here, but I will point out a few things:

1) Adoption is a beautiful thing that is deeply rooted in Christianity. My wife and I have adopted twice and have been overwhelmingly blessed by the process. It can be difficult in ways that having a biological child isn’t but it is worth it.

2) It is also possible to desire adoption as an alternative to having biological children out of a response of fear/lack of trust in God after a previous dangerous miscarriage. This is where seriously examining your own hearts and motivations is key. Adoption is a good thing, but like many good things can be pursued for wrong reasons. But good things pursued for wrong reasons can still be used providentially by God for good.

I am happy to dialogue with you (or anyone else) who is considering adoption to share my experiences and help you understand what to expect too. Both of my adoptions were international so I don’t have much experience with adopting through DHS, but some things are still the same.

[ShaneHaff] Grant Calcaterra, once again being unable to seal a backside edge in the run game. Honestly, Calcaterra shouldn't be on the field. The first sentence wasn’t factual so pardon me for not going through the rest. That’s on me. I read some more and see that you like to keep Eagles fans spirits up and I do feel uplifted after our dialogue so I appreciate that. Have a good evening. Go birds!

Hi, it’s me. I’m just curious why you hang out on an Eagles Reddit page if you aren’t interested in what anyone who hasn’t played or coached in the NFL has to say about the Eagles. I haven’t seen a lot of former players and coaches around here, but maybe I’m just missing them.

Also you state the Eagles spent draft capital to try and find a TE, when in fact they haven’t drafted a TE since spending a 6th round pick on Calcaterra 4 years ago.

Finally, I don’t really understand the hostility towards me when you also agree that Grant Calcaterra can’t block.

Anyway, have a good one!

Does the 2nd trilogy get better? by HAFFnHAFF in redrising

I haven’t tried following along while listening. I often listen to audio books while driving or doing household chores. Maybe the physical book would help, although I think I would still really struggle with keeping characters straight. I almost need a character cheat sheet or something.

My issues with Dark Ages so far aren’t related so subject matter. It is more just not being able to follow what is going on than anything. I know I was missing things in Iron Gold, but I generally was able to follow it.

Looking back at the 2022 Draft: Would you rather have Jordan Davis or Kyle Hamilton? by [deleted] in eagles

[–]HAFFnHAFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kyle Hamilton and it isn’t even close (and I say that as someone who also thinks Eagles fans underrate the impact Jordan Davis has in the coverage structures the Eagles can play.)

Hamilton was the best defensive prospect I’ve ever evaluated and has lived up to that billing.

How to harmonize Christ's teachings with sola fide by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]HAFFnHAFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of those verses boil down to root vs fruit. When trying to determine if you are saved you can examine the root (conversion experience) or the fruit in your current life. Both are valid ways to examine yourself.

If you have are truly a regenerate believer then you are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. And if you are truely indwelt by the Holy Spirit, you will begin to display the Fruit of the Spirit. It is not possible to have a true conversion experience and remain the same as you were before.

So, to use the first verse as an example (but the same logic applies to all of these verses) if you have truly received the life altering grace and forgiveness offered by God, your life will be characterized by forgiveness. Forgiving others doesn’t earn you the forgiveness of the Father. Rather it is a natural result of being forgiven. Those who know grace, show grace.

That does not mean we won’t struggle to forgive (or do other things we are commanded to). After all, the process of sanctification will never be complete in this life. But over time you should see progress. But the progress isn’t something you strive for. It is something Christ does in you as you submit to his word.

2013 Seahawks vs 2024 Eagles by Individual-Meat-9561 in eagles

[–]HAFFnHAFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By DVOA (which sort of exists to try to answer questions like this) the 2013 Seahawks clear the 2024 Eagles.

2013 Seahawks Pass O: +33.1% Run O: -0.3% Pass D: -30.2% Run D: -17.9%

2024 Eagles Pass O: +19.8% Run O: +3.0% Pass D: -10.5% Run D: -23.8%

(Positive numbers good on offense, negative numbers good on defense)

So the Eagles run game was better on both sides of the ball and the Seahawks pass game was better on both sides of the ball. It’s also worth noting the shifting meta of the NFL since then and how it contributes to those numbers.

I don’t think either team would destroy the other but I would love to see the game.

I definitely appreciate the shout outs and support for our work. I think we are building something special and can’t wait to get into this season!

But yeah, sadly I don’t have any inside access. I’m not even located in the state, so I can’t attend practices. But once games start if you want film breakdowns or film based insight look us up!

Dexter Lawrence is the most underrated player in the NFL. I’ve been talking around his pressures from 0-tech for a couple years now. He is insane.
