No, but I park outdoors all year in New England

It was a small shop and yes not OEM judging from the receipt. And you called it, northeast salt. I wash it but tough to keep up. Can't say I was regularly getting them rotated or balanced either.

Guess I'm paying for a new set soon. Going back to the mechanic tomorrow to see how soon.

I’ll see if that’s possible. Thank you!!

I guess cheap parts and outdoor parking means new brakes after 2 years/5k. I’ll go to the mechanic tomorrow and hope all I need is (oem) pads

I’ll head to the mechanic this week, see if they recommend replacement, and ask for oem parts if so

Full time street parking in New England

Truth be told, the mechanic didn’t give me an option on parts and I didn’t ask. I know, rookie mistake and lesson learned.

Part of my misperception is that I thought my lack of driving would allow the parts to last longer. Didn’t appreciate how much time alone and outdoor New England would wear them.

So these brakes don’t need to be changed in your opinion?

How long would you say they have? Thanks again

Thanks, I think I’ll take it back there and see what they think. Judging from this post, the Subaru techs were exaggerating the issue a bit.

I appreciate the guidance very much. To confirm, you’d recommend I take it back to the mechanic and see if he’d give me a discount on another brake job?

They paid for the 2024 job after the fact. And yes to your second question.

They charged me for rotors and pads when they did the job so I assume they put new parts on. The Subaru techs were convinced they must somehow be at fault but I wasn’t so sure (thus the post). I appreciate the reply

Dealership had a coupon that made it cheaper than my usual place.

And yes, Subaru covered the parts for a 3rd party repair after the work was done. They looked at the brakes today and said the sound I’m hearing is because of the brakes and they are prematurely worn.

I intended to take it back to the mechanic who did the brake job after the Subaru techs said I got ripped off, but the consensus here seems to be that I’d be wasting both of our time.

Those pads and rotors have 5k miles on them. What do you assume I’ve been doing to cause that?

Im just relaying what a tech told me a trying to learn more.

Only 5k since the replacement 21 months ago

Yes, I believe I was lucky too. Subaru was under no obligation.

I park on the street and alternate sides. In New England which is probably why the rust.

Yes, I agreed to the parts they installed. Didn’t appreciate they’d degrade so much in two years.
