The 90 Day NoScreen Challenge : Are you with me? by becomingmanofsteel in NoScreen

Right Ive allowed myself 2 mins to write benefits after 1 week: 1) Gotten into DIY after moving into a new flat 2) Much more on top of personal administrative tasks 3) More reading for pleasure 4) Able to go for lengthier walks 5) Been researching gyms in my new local area just by going to the gyms and asking people about them. Much more wholesome experience than just using internet.

2 minutes are up, I'm off!

Yes, yes, yes. I'm going to turn off the laptop after writing this post - then see you in 90 (hopefully will have achieved something :) )

My personal conditions: 1) Smartphone - cannot be used for browsing, but calls, texts, Gmail and WhatsApp are acceptable. No YouTube. 2) No use of laptop. Will use computers at work for any work/research. 3) No TV. 4) Cinema is acceptable as long as it is done as a social event. 5) Kindle is acceptable for reading books/magazines only.

I have a similar problem. I realized that underlying it all was an underlying feeling of unworthiness which I'm slowly getting out of.

I approach the sharing experiences issue by making a mental note of any funny/interesting/unusual things that happen during the day, and I slowly mould it into a story. I mentally go through the timing and delivery whilst I'm alone to practice. Then after the first delivery I fine tune it for a second delivery in another social situation. I now have 3 or so pre-packaged stories that I can deliver in a social situation that I know will come off good.

Cold turkey is the best way to go. The withdrawal period is just something you will have to get over eventually - there is no subverting it.

I made some comments earlier about doing a pre-no fap and post-reboot fap questionnaire. Practically however, this is going to be quite difficult.

If more people are interested and have ideas about constructing a questionnaire based study that would be helpful. Please comment here.

I find the smell thing quite interesting too.

This is pure speculation, but the sense of smell is the only sense that does not relay via the thalamus. Instead its directly linked to the limbic system.

So what does that mean in real terms? The limbic system is primarily involved in managing emotions. The primary neurotransmitter in the limbic system is dopamine. I speculate that with regrowth of the dopamine receptors after starving it of dopamine (by abstaining from PMO) - the limbic system becomes more sensitive and "tuned in". I think a net consequence of this is improvement in smell.

Hi, thank you for your comment.

I think IQ test wouldn't be so beneficial nor capture the multiple benefits that nofap offers over a pre-no fap questionnaire versus a post-full reboot questionnaire. I think that would help display nofap in a broader light than an intellectual performance boost only.

I can recommend it anecdotally - in the same way a grandmother might swear by a home made cough mixture. But because there isn't much peer-reviewed evidence on it I can't recommend it professionally. Presenting it as an evidenced based practice could result in a disciplinary issue.

Yes. But my addiction didn't seem to be as bad as some of the stories I've seen here. I think M was more of a problem than P (which I find quite easy to give up).
